Title: Five-Day School-Based Enhancement Training-Workshop in Campus Journalism


Theme:
Participants: Campus Journalists (English and Filipino)

Rationale: The campus journalism Act of 1991 seeks to “uphold and protect the freedom of the
press even at the campus level”, as stated in the law Section 2 (Declaration of Policy); the law aims to
“promote the development and growth of campus journalism as a means of strengthening ethical values,
encouraging critical and creative thinking, and developing moral character and personal discipline of
the Filipino youth.”
Candijay National High School is one of the advancing public high schools in
Candijay Bohol. The school’s main thrust is to provide quality education, instill moral
values and produce holistic and capable students that would become future leaders in a
sophisticated, competitive and evolving world. These support the school’s main points:
Excellence, Competence and Commitment which make the school conducive and committed to
pedagogical undertakings. To support such, the conduct o f t h i s 5 - d a y t r a i n i n g - w o r k s h o p w a s
conceptualized.
With the journalistic and broadcasting skills of the students being developed, improved
and strengthened, then they will be equipped and ready to compete in press conferences, they may as
well use such skills to further improve in the craft and practice them may it be in in-campus or even
local journalism.

Objectives: This activity aims to:


1. train campus journalists on specific journalism events;
2. coach campus journalists into enhancing their competitive journalism skills;
3. enhance teamwork of the whole school editorial staff;
4. prepare the campus journalists in their participation to the Division Schools
Press Conference;
5. develop the specific journalism skills of the young journalists and come up
with competitive ones who will succeed in the regional and national level
competitions.
