Medical applications such as implants and bone coatings use nanostructures from calcium
phosphate. The type of calcium phosphate that is often used is hydroxyapatite (HAP) because
it has biocompatible material properties, bioactive and stable under physiological conditions.
The research entitled "Nano-Hydroxyapatite Morphological Control in Reverse-Micelle
Systems Using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)
surfactant”, has a problem statement whether HAP materials in reverse micell systems using
surfactants can be used as new materials such as substitution or reconstruction bones and teeth.
The purpose of this study was to study the synthesis of nano-hydroxyapatite using CTAB and
SDS surfactants in a reverse micelle system, the effect of W=H2O/surfactant on hydroxyapatite
morphology and the size of the colloidal particles synthesized.
This research is divided into two stages; synthesis and characterization of nano-HAP. The
samples taken were synthesis of nano-HAP CTAB/H2O/cyclohexane and nano-HAP
SDS/H2O/cyclohexane. Characterization of nano-HAP using the X-ray Diffraction (XRD)
method, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis Spectrophotometer,
Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
The size and morphology of nano-HAP is influenced by the condition of the nanoreactor with
the variation of mol water/surfactant(W). SEM results show synthesis of HAP CTAB surfactant
system obtained by rod-shaped crystalline morphology with a size of 20-60 nm, while in SDS
system a needle size of 100 x 50 mm. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that HAP products
had a hexagonal crystal structure with lattice parameters a = 9.35-9.419 Å, c = 6.876-6.915 Å,
c/a = 0.7315-0.7342 and density (calculation) = 3,167-3,205 g/cm3.
