GUIDELINES AND MECHANICS FOR SPELLING CONTEST

Purpose

 To improve and advance the skills associated with good spelling habits
 To enhance student's development of poise and communication under pressure
 To expand student's vocabulary and encourage accurate word usage and pronunciation

Procedure/Rules

1. The contestants will have to print in small letters each word within 10 seconds.
2. The quizmaster shall read the word twice, given the part of speech and meaning, use
the word in a sentence and read again.
3. The official timer shall signal the “start” and the contestant shall write their answers on
white board. The same official timer shall signal the “end” of the time allotted for each
question by means of a call bell and the contestant shall stop writing. They shall show
their answers in front for checking.
4. Every correct answer shall be credited one (1) point.

During the Contest proper, Caution is firmly imposed on everyone to abide, such as:

• No talking will be allowed among contestants or between contestants and members of

the audience.
• If a contestant receives assistance from anyone in the audience, he/she will be
disqualified.
• The audience is also requested to remain seated until a break is offered in order to avoid
confusion for the contestants.
