Following is an analysis and problem statement in response to the request
to improve the current Bus Management System of the city of Lahore.
Introduction
Existing System
Background
Presently, the buses depart from the central bus station at a fixed
time. And reach the next bus stations on their way passing through
the traffic. A ticket issuer issues the tickets to the passengers, a ticket
checker ensures that every passenger buys a ticket by getting into the
bus at a random station and checking the ticket of every passenger
manually, a time keeper tries to ensures that the buses reaches the
last station in appropriate time by checking the departure time and
the arrival time on a random bus station.
Problems
Operational
Technical
Economic
The cost for the development of a single station would cost around
3000$ each including the ticket checking system, RFID and screens.
There are almost 120 LTC stations around Lahore so the development
of the stations would cost around 360000$. The deployment of the
GPS and RFID in the buses would cost almost 100$ for each bus and
LTC have around 100 buses so it would cost around 10000$. And the
elimination of ticket checkers would save almost 10000$ per month.
LTC would also need to buy new database servers that would cost
around 15000$.
