Potential Customers for PG

PG has many potential customers in Malaysia due to its many economical uses. For
example, a potential customer for PG can be Nippon Paint company. This is because, PG is
an important co-solvent for water-based paints and it is also used as an intermediate in the
production of alkyd resins for paints. PG also contributes to paint protection and helping in
the preservation of surfaces. PG also acts as an antifreeze agent which provides stability for
the paint and protects the buildings against climatic degradation (Peron,M et al, 2014).
Nippon Paint produces paints like Weatherbond, Weatherbond Solarflect, Weatherbond Flex
and etc. These paints are most commonly used in exterior paintings and made to be durable in
harsh weather. By refereeing to their technical data sheets, we can infer that they produce a
large amount of exterior and water-based paints in their plant (Nippon Paint, 2016). This
makes them as a potential customer for PG.

Cosmetic industries like Cetaphil, Biore, Nivea and Vaseline also prove to be a
potential customer for PG. This is mainly due to PG and polyPG attracts water and functions
as a humectant. Humectant is a hygroscopic substance that is used to keep things moist
(Merriam-Webster, na). These properties are usually found in moisturizers to enhance the
appearance of skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness. PG also aids via serving as a
viscosity decreasing agent, solvent and fragrance ingredient in this industry. Moreover, PG is
also metabolized into lactic acid inside the human body which makes it safer to use
(Cosmetic Info, 2016). Therefore, cosmetic industries as stated above can use PG to do their
formulations for their products especially moisturizers, facial cleansers, shampoos and
conditioners.

Companies like Petronas, Castrol and Toyota are also potential customers as they
produce engine coolants in their fields. For example, Castrol Radicool SF-O and Castrol
Radicool from Castrol uses polyglycols as their antifreeze (Castrol, 2018). Engine coolant is
usually used to cool the engine by transferring the heat from the engine to the radiator.
Engine coolants are usually mixed with an antifreeze. This is to prevent the coolant inside the
engine from freezing and also increases the boiling point of the coolant itself. PG is a good
antifreeze as it is less hazardous compared to ethylene glycol. It is also more effective in its
task to aid the heat removal as it has a higher specific heat (Driving Test Tips, 2019).
Therefore, companies involved in automotive industries are proven to be possible customer
for PG.
Finally, another group of potential customers for PG are from the food industries. This
is because PG is used in food processing as it preserves moisture and helps to dissolve
colours and flavours evenly. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PG is
is safe to be consumed and it is also lesser harmful to the environment (Food Insight, 2014).
It is also often used as an anticaking agent, an antioxidant, dough strengthener, thickener,
stabilizer, solvent, emulsifier and preservative. PG is most commonly used in processing soft
drinks like Pepsi, frozen meals, artificial sweeteners like NutraSweet, cake mixes like
Pillsbury, food colourings and marinades (Paleo Foundation, 2018).
