Problem
Calculate the drag force on each side of a thin smooth
plate 2m long and 1m wide with the length parallel to a
flow of fluid moving at 30m/s. The density of the fluid
is 800 Kg/m3 and the dynamic viscosity is 8cP.

Drag coefficient is given as cd = 0.074x Re(-1/5)

Solution
Re =  v L /  (6x106)

cd = 0.074x Re(1/5) (0.00326)

Dynamic pressure = . v2/2 (360 kPa)

ᴛw = Cd x Dynamic pressure (1173.6 Pa)

Drag force = ᴛw x Wetted area (2347.2 N)

Problem
A smooth thin plate 5m long and 1m wide is placed in
an air stream moving at 3m/s with its length parallel
with the flow. Calculate the drag force on each side of
the plate. Consider the air as ideal gas. Kinematic
viscosity of the air is 1.6x10-5 m2/s.
