Activity Form 1

Theological Implications of the statement

Statement 1:”Commitment is beyond the satisfaction of personal needs”

Theological Implications:

1. To be committed in essence is that we prioritize the needs of the other more than ours. We set aside
our personal needs to cater the needs of the person/s that we are committed to.

2. As an individual we do have our personal needs and there are times that our partner couldn’t provide
for our needs that is why as humans and sinners, we are tempted to seek our needs to other people
who can provide for it but we must be firm and be reminded to stay committed amidst temptations.

Statement 2:”Commitment entails rising above time”

Theological Implications

1. To be committed to a person doesn’t mean you are only committed to him/her for a certain time and
leave when you don’t feel like it anymore. Beauty and body features fades away but your love must
remain for it is a sign of commitment when you stay even everything else changes.

2. To commit means to love unconditionally because once upon a time, you went up to the Lord with
your whole family and friends behind you and promised to commit yourself to that person your putting
a ring unto. That promise you made was your commitment not just to your spouse but to the Lord.

Statement 3:”We discover our lives only as we give them away.”

Theological Implications

1. Being committed is selfless because Commitment requires self-donation, and self-donation demands
indwelling. Our Personal and voluntary commitment to someone or to the community must be
motivated by love.

2. Commitment refers to something that we bring to it. Many people fail in their commitment because
they do not bring anything to the commitment. They only want to take or receive, but they do not want
to give. Commitment is present when we give ourselves completely to the other.
