FINAL COURSE OUTPUT:

At the end of the term, students are required to submit a research proposal
containing three chapters, initial estimate of the needed resources in the
fabrication of the project particularly the raw materials and expenses plus the
blueprint of the project

RUBRIC FOR ASSESSMENT:

The rubric below will be used to grade the student’s research paper (Chapters 1 –
3) and their performance during Title Defense and Proposal Defense (see attached
forms).

Research topics must be based from the priorities and thrusts of Mechanical
Engineering as being stated in the University Research Agenda, and are being
listed as follows:
1. Indigenous material for possible fuel conversion (new material source
or new equipment for fuel extraction; fuel for automotive)
2. Wind energy utilization (new design; higher power output)
3. Tools and equipment (innovation; if modification of existing it should have
higher efficiency and performance; machine shop tools and equipment)
4. Water conservation (water purifier/equipment/filter; water desalinating
equipment)
5. Pollution prevention (air, water, land pollution; Materials Recovery Facility
– 3 combined groups proposing 3 equipment with new design; paper,
plastic, metal, electronics, etc. recycling machine)
6. Energy conservation (new device with lower energy consumption)
7. Instructional material development (with feasibility study or needs
analysis from the students and professors who’s handling the subject)
8. Industry-based problems (cleaner production; hazardous waste
management; process/system improvement thru machine; ideas obtained
during internship) – should have technical adviser from the company; with
MOA or MOU

During title proposal, each group should observe the following guidelines:
 Prepare atleast 3-5 topics for selection.
 There is really a problem that needs to be address.
 Topics shall highlight the mechanical engineering major (Kinematics,
Machine Design, Refrigeration System, HVAC, ICE, Power and Industrial
Plant, Renewable Energy).
 Project output shall be beneficial to the following: field of research,
extension services, academe, LGU’s, private company.
 The study requires to conduct for a needs analysis or has a request letter
from the community indicating the problem that needs for a solution.
 Each group should present atleast 5 review of related literature obtained
from reliable sources, published indexed journals and previous studies (e.g.
Science Direct, Research Gate, IEEE) that will support the feasibility of the
chosen topic.

CLASS POLICIES:

1. Students are required to wear the University I.D always. As well as the
prescribed school uniform on days required or appropriate attire on free
days within the campus.
2. Absences incurred due to any of the following reasons shall be excused:
official representation in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities; sickness duly certified by the attending physician or the University
physician and force majeure. Absence(s) incurred due to any of the
aforementioned reasons do not exempt concerned students from complying
with the regular requirements of their course. An excused absence,

however, should not exceed more than thirty percent (30%) of required total
attendance per semester. Any student who accumulates more than twenty
percent (20%) of the time of unexcused absences from any of his/her
subject before the midterm examinations shall be dropped automatically
from that subject. The instructor concerned shall mark him/her FDA (failure
due absences) or UD (unofficially dropped) from his subject.
3. A student shall be marked absent from the class if he/she arrives 20 minutes
after the start of the scheduled time. However, student must not be deprived
of attending the lesson if he wishes. Unless the subject teacher concerned
gave prior notice, students may leave their assigned room if the teacher
fails to come within 15 minutes after the start of the scheduled time for a
one-hour class, 30 minutes for a two-hour class, 45 minutes for a three-hour
class, and so on. The student shall be marked absent if he/she leaves their
assigned room before the prescribed waiting time.
4. Students must avoid any form of class distractions and disturbances
including using of gadgets during class hours. Student must turn off their
cellphones or put them in silence mode.
5. Students must observe and practice proper ethical behavior to maintain the
harmonious relationship with the subject instructor and fellow classmates.
If the student has concerns on his/her subject instructor, or even in the
subject itself, he/she may approach the instructor during the appointed
consultation hours. Furthermore, he/she may also approach the department
head first, and then to the College Secretary if he/she cannot approach the
instructor due to his/her personal reasons.
6. Student(s) who will be caught cheating, by any means (e.g. using
unauthorized notes or formula books, conversing with other students during
the exam proper), in any examination taken will automatically make his/her
examination void during the first offense and further be given with a grade
of 5.0 for the next offense.
7. Correction of scores earned on any examinations taken be done only during
the class hours upon returning the paper. Any corrections that will be proven
as being fabricated by the student will be given the same sanction as being
stated from the previous policy.
8. Administration of special and removal examinations to an individual or
group of students is subject to the recommendation of the subject teacher
and approval by the unit head concerned.
9. For transparency of giving fair grades, the students shall not be deprived to
know the procedures used to compute grade and reevaluate his/her class
standing at any time. The student should be informed of his/her final grade
before it is encoded/posted.
10. No faculty shall change any grade after it has been posted. In exceptional
cases, where an error has been committed, the instructor/professor may
request authority from the Dean of his college/campus to make the
necessary change, provided, that the supporting document is presented. If
the request is granted, a copy of the authority from the Dean authorizing the
change shall be forwarded to the Office of the Registrar for proper
recording.
