ALARM MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM WITH SOFREL S
510 OPERATION
MANUAL
INTRODUTION
This documentation describe about how to use, operate and managing alarm management system
using soft tool software with SOFREL S510 remote terminal unit(RTU) ,mainly the alarm management
system used for notify users by sending message for those are technician, operator and technique
managers related to existing alarm on different section.
Device specification
SOFREL S510 is simplified version RTU with the following features

 Four Number of board slots


 RS 232 terminal port
 GSM/GPRS modem
 8 DI (8 Digital Inputs)
 4 DO+WDG (4 Digital Outputs + Watchdog) within two slots

Software specification
The SOFTOOLS software package can be used to configure and operate all SOFREL remote terminal
unit.

 Configuration of the different types of remote terminal unit.

 Local and remote viewing (PSTN/GSM/LAN) for remote terminal unit operation (data
viewing,
Set point and operating parameter modification, facility diagnostics, etc.).

 Configuration Import and Export (for backup, use with another SOFTOOL application,
processing By a SCADA central station, or printing)
 SOFTOOLS directory backup and restore.
Overall process
The alarm management system RTU take each general alarm signal from different Area as digital
input, here we only restrict to eight unit because of the device can only have eight digital input.

Based on each alarm name which are the area of alarm occurred send message to correspond
Technician, operator and technique managers, anyone who receive alarm message can send
acknowledgment message to RTU alternatively can be acknowledged from RTU terminal port.

Working procedure
Step 1 First we connect RS232 to USB cable from computer to RTU port, then open Sofrel Softlools
software from desktop icons, if the password was not changed put “ADMINI”in the password field
press Validate button.

Notice

Don’t forget the caps lock when entering the password

If it not working contact the responsible person.

Step 2 From main windows RTUs page click on “BGI ETHIOPIA ADDIS ABEBA S510”

So there is three characteristic of different operation button appear in the right panel properties,
connect and configure.

Step1.In the right panel click on properties

Step 1.in the main windows of RTU right panel click on connection

Step 3.For Technician, operator and technique managers used “EXPLOI” PASSWORD, then select
operation

 It will appear terminal port it contains Browse, Operation and Diagnostics

This communication event log shows what is going on with GSM module with contact
phone.

1. SMS acknowledgment

Reply message by sending ‘password#AC’

2. Clicking on alarm buttons in terminal port

Time setting

Set RTUs time used for sorting communication log and periodic settings

Call addresses GSM/LAN/PSTN

Set phone number, LAN address and PSTN setting.

Configuration
Commissioning the device implemented in this window can be in offline mode without RTU.

Step 1.In the right panel of main windows click on configuration

Configuration

Configuration windows have a lot of setting and based on device type there is some difference on it,
so the major setting for commissioning SOFREL S510 stated below.

Password

See and change passwords for Administrator, configurator, contract operator and viewer.

State identification

When there is alarm message this is the first word send to users then followed by input alarm
and date the alarm occurs.

Regional parameter

Set date separator, format and electrical power supply frequency.

Alarm inhibition

To inhibit existing any input alarm and process.

Step 2. Adding phone number

1. In the configuration window first click on phone image Overview>phone image


2. Then on the existing windows tab click on SMS/GSM recipients and Drag to phone list

3. In the filed appear fill recipient name and phone number

4. Click on and save button, then it must be say “valid configuration” otherwise check the
configuration again.
Step 3 check message center and sending characters length

1. in the configuration window first click on phone image

Step 4 add sequences to attach alarm with contacts

1. In left configuration window click on “AUTOMATIC PSTN/GSM

5. Click on and save button, then it must be say “valid configuration” otherwise check the
configuration again.

Step 5 Add Digital input

1. in configuration window click on DI button

2. Double Click on any free digital input terminal normal open symbol it’s the same for editing DI.

Free digital input showed in red rectangle


with “???”Symbol.
3. Within popup windows there is three properties

5. After finished all setting close configuration window

6. Go to main window then click on connect

 To write all configuration to RTUs set the password “ADMINI” in connection

7. Select in Write configuration (PC to RTUs)
