LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

Section and Time: Date:

Learning Demonstrate the generation of electricity by movement of a magnet through Level 10

Competency a coil. S10FE-IIi-53
Quarter 2

Learning Knowledge: Discuss basic principles of electricity and magnetism. Week 1

Objectives No.
Skills: Distinguish a magnet from a steel bar in relation to principles of
Day 2
magnetism.

Attitudes: Display precautionary measures in putting up signages using the

knowledge about current, voltage and resistance.
Topic Basic Facts about Electricity and Magnetism Duration: 60
mins
Resources Needed Visual Aid: Picture Signage
Materials Needed: Bar magnet and steel bar (of the same dimension)

Awareness Video Presentation:
“Why the Earth’s Magnetic Shield Matter”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXFVpwecixY
This video showcase where the magnetic properties of the Earth originates. This will provide
a link between the previous knowledge (dynamic processes of the Earth) and the current
lesson (magnetism and electricity).
Activity Brainstorming:
1. Big Ideas for Discussion: The Earth as a Giant Magnet
Magnetic Field of the Earth
2. Brain Teaser 1: Picture Signage

3. Ideas for Discussion: Current, Voltage, Resistance

Analysis 1. What is a magnetic field?

2. A compass is just a small bar magnet freely suspended in air. If the north end of the
compass point to the North pole of the Earth, does it not violate the rule “like poles
repel, unlike poles attract”?
Abstraction 1. Magnetic field is the region around/surrounding a magnet, wherein a magnet can
influence another magnet or magnetizable objects.
2. This apparent dilemma does not violate the rule “like poles repel, unlike poles
attract”. The Earth has two North poles (the Geographic and Magnetic North pole).
The compass needle points the Geographic North pole of the Earth, which is actually
the Magnetic South pole as it aligns with the magnetic field of the Earth.

Application Brain Teaser 2:

If you had two bars of iron--one magnetized and the other not--and no other materials at
hand, how could you tell which bar is the magnet?

Assessment 1. Differentiate current, voltage and resistance.

2. Where is the magnetic field strength strongest?
Assignment Read pages 92-94, LM Science 10.
1. List down 5 objects which you think can be attracted to a magnet.
2. List down 5 objects which you think cannot be attracted to a magnet
