About Us
Maryam Institute
Maryam Institute is a non-commercial, non-political educational institute for women dedicated to classical
Islamic learning and spirituality. Its core objectives are to provide a structured educational approach to
classical Islamic scholarship, offer a flexible learning environment and impart an educational experience that
is at once intellectually rigorous and spiritually uplifting.

To that end, our courses seek to educate students in the main disciplines of Islamic learning including Arabic
language, Quran, Hadith, Law, Islamic History and Spirituality, as well as offer Islamic knowledge on
contemporary and lifestyle issues pertinent to women – all in a manner that is easy to comprehend and
practical to implement in one’s life. Our classes also highlight the importance of using sacred knowledge as a
means of increasing our connection with Allah (swt) and furthering our spiritual development.

All programs at Maryam Institute draw upon the rich scholarly tradition based on the Quran and the Sunnah
as understood by the Sahabah (Companions) and the Salaf Saliheen (Pious Predecessors), with a respect for
all scholars of the Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jama’ah. In addition, our course materials are also informed by current
research in modern sciences and are taught using a modern educational approach, making Maryam Institute
distinct in its embrace of tradition and technology.

Maryam Institute was founded in 2012 by Shaykh Moiz Hasan and his wife, Alimah Sobia Hasan and to date,
its courses have been attended by over 2500 women from over 25 countries across the world.

All courses are offered free of charge.

Our Students

Our student body is comprised of women of all ages from all over the world. They benefit not only from
learning in a flexible environment but develop lifelong friendships through study groups, forums, student-led
review sessions, and the opportunity to interact informally.

Student Testimonials
“All of the courses at Maryam Institute are wonderful! SubhanAllah, I cannot begin to describe how much I
have learned since I began my studies here. Our teachers do an exceptional job of contextualizing content in
Tafseer and Hadith classes so that they can be easily applied in our daily lives. Similarly, examples from the
Quran and hadith are highlighted in our Arabic classes so that we are able to apply knowledge from one
class to another. Despite the online setting, there is a feeling of sisterhood among the students. Emphasis is
put not only on our studies but also on personal spiritual development, which makes the courses and
company (of teachers and classmates) Maryam Institute provides all the more beneficial.”

“Allhumdulilah, Maryam institute has been a great blessing in my life.. what I love most is that not only do our
teachers focus on classes, they form a close bond with their students. All text books are uploaded so there is
no cost and you get flexibility to chose between Qur’an Program, Fundamentals and Advance Program. If you
are behind in your classes, there are Teaching Assistants to help you throughout. Currently I am in my second
year of the Alimah Program. My background was that I only knew how to read Arabic and now, with the mercy
of Allah swt, I can understand 50 to 70 percent of the Qur’an! Allhumdulilah!”

- 3rd Year Alimah Program Student from the US

"Arabic is just wonderful. Feels like I am falling in love with it now, the more you study, the more it opens up to
you. It feels like a deep ocean and you just want to sink down in it. It is such a beautiful feeling to know and
understand the language of our beloved Prophet (saw), the language that Allah (swt) chose for Himself and
the language of Jannah. SubhanAllah! Earlier I was really scared when it came to Arabic, but now
Alhamdulillah I just love it! I especially love the way our Ustadas teach us, it’s just wonderful. They are so
patient with us and spend so much time.. And then the review sessions! All in all, I can only say
Alhamdulillah!"

Bond of Trust
The foundation of the relationship between the teacher and the student is based on trust. Maryam Institute
provides free Islamic education for women only. In order to maintain the haya (modesty) of our female
teachers, please ensure that no man listens to the voice of the instructor. We recommend that one uses
headphones while listening to the class so that the voice of the instructor can only be heard by the student.
We also request that one does not share live class streaming links or class recordings, without prior
permission from the admin of Maryam Institute.

Recordings
Recordings for all the classes are available on the same class links that you will click to enter class.
Recordings are usually available 2 to 3 hours after every class.

Back up Broadcast Options

Qur’an classes will also be broadcast via Mixlr. In case WizIQ does not work, you may listen to Qur’an
classes using the following link: www.MaryamInstitute.org/classes

Please note that backup broadcasting will be available for Qur’an classes ONLY. All students are
required to sign in to WizIQ for class and this back up should be used only if WizIQ does not seem to work on
any given day.
Attendance

As with any course of study, actually attending classes is of the utmost importance. While in secular classes
attendance certainly matters, live attendance matters much more in classes relating to deen. The reason for
this is simply because of the barakah of being in a group that remembers Allah swt and His commands.

In a Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah RA, the Prophet SAW said:

I am as My slave thinks I am, and I am with him when he mentions Me. If he makes mention of Me to
himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in a gathering, I make
mention of him in a gathering better than it. And if he draws near to Me a hand-span, I draw near to
him a forearm’s length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go near to him running.

[Sahih, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3822]

For this reason, we highly encourage attending as many classes live as possible. We understand that
sometimes classes are missed due to genuine reasons; alhamdulillah all classes are recorded and recordings
are available to students for their convenience.

Accessing Recordings

The links used to access class (found on page 5) also contain recordings of previous classes. Simply click
on the link of the class that was missed and scroll up in the list of classes to find the missed session and click
on “View Recording” or “Download Recording”.
