Year 1/2 Weekly Update

September 30-October 4
Important Days
Happy Fall! We thought a lot last week about how the
Wednesday- 1:40 dismiss
seasons are changing. We tried to change the
classroom a bit by taking down the reading umbrella
PE: Tuesday, Thursday
and making our own reading ‘campfire’. The kids used
some creativity with the classroom materials to make
the change. As the weather begins to change talk with
Music:Monday, Friday them about what things they notice in the
environment, about the activities you do at home, or
even just the clothing that they are wearing.
Sometimes as adults we forget that these small
conversations contribute LARGELY to their
understanding of the world around them.

We are Learning About…

Reading-We continue working on consistent reading habits in class and
literacy assessments. We talk in class about Building Good Reading Habits. Our
practice in class is about how we choose good reading spots, choose books
that are just right for us (this applies specifically to Year 2 students or those
who are reading already).

Writing- We will focus this week on our journaling about healthy choices
and writing simple instructions, like how to wash hands. We will continue
working on adding more to our writing (to the picture or with words).

Math-We will continue our study of numbers- how they are represented,
how they are flexibly made, counting sequences, and ordering. We also
continue our focus on problem solving strategies and process.
