SUMMARY STATEMENTS (You may choose to comment on both personal and professional characteristics)
School Coordinator/Principal
Hayden has completed a successful placement at Highgate School. He demonstrated an ability
to give clear instructions, using visual supports, linking current learning to prior learning. When
working with students, Hayden needs to improve his skills in monitoring all students, as well as
further developing his understanding of the needs of all students in the class, especially those
with specific learning needs. It will also be important for Hayden to continue to develop a greater
range of feedback strategies. Hayden was able to manage the class well, but behaviour
management is still an area for growth. Hayden engaged in professional discussions with other
staff in staff meetings. Overall, a satisfactory placement.

University Liaison
Hayden quickly developed excellent relationships with students and managed a difficult class
well. An area of strength in the lessons I observed was his ability to manage and accommodate
the extra support personnel in the classroom. I was impressed with his ability to plan and
prepare very engaging activities for students and to have activities in reserve when needed.
This is a skill which will stand him in good stead for the future. He was willing to accept and act
on feedback from his mentor teacher and he grew in strength and ability throughout the
practicum. Hayden demonstrated a genuine commitment to his future profession and was
willing to take on extra teaching duties to gain as much experience as possible. A very good
practicum. Well done!

SUMMARY STATEMENT(S) (May be used as a referee statement)

RE: Hayden Bennett Primary

Professional Knowledge
Hayden is able to organise a series of lessons towards his chosen topic. He uses the Australian
Curriculum outcomes and standards to create rubrics towards his assessment of student learning.
Hayden was able to identify students that required additional support and often sought feedback or
advice on how to differentiate task appropriately for particular students. As Hayden grew to know the
students more he was more confident in this area.

An area of focus for Hayden will be to implement his knowledge of how students learn into his
learning sequences and to become more aware of the diverse backgrounds of student cohort.

Professional Practice
Hayden plans and establishes learning goals that provide achievable challenges for the vast majority
of students. He needs to focus on the intellectual stretch of some when planning the outcomes and
consider more in depth the needs of less capable students. Hayden scaffolds his lesson content well,
each lesson built into the next and he recalled previous lessons when needed.

Hayden is showing an increasing level of awareness and independence in locating and selecting
resources appropriate for his lessons and relevant context. He is also beginning to vary the range of
engagement strategies used.

Hayden is beginning to use a variety of assessment strategies, including rubrics to assess student
learning. This will be an area of continued development for Hayden as he progresses throughout his
future placements.

Professional Engagement
Hayden understands the ethical and professional expectations when dealing with students,
maintaining safe practices.

Hayden is able to identify areas of practice where he needs improvement and is open for discussion
and feedback. He regularly sought feedback and advice on how to improve.

A future development for Hayden is for him to become more aware as he moves forwards with his
career are the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching.

Overall Hayden was confident with building relationships with the students and had an overall
expected level in regard to behaviour management. A future focus is lesson preparation and
readiness for the day and to be aware of students who need help but don’t necessarily ask for it.
