Overview

Woodworking 9/10 is a course designed to give students an entry-level understanding of

the tools, techniques, and processes involved in creating high quality wood based projects.
Students will work individually and collaboratively on projects that are intended to develop
critical and creative thinking skills while making decisions that acknowledge the cultural and
environmental concerns of our local community.

Course Pre-requisites

No prior experience in woodworking is required to take Woodworking 9/10. However,

the course requires the knowledge of basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division as well as the understanding of fractions from 1/1 to 1/64.

Safety

Safety in the woodworking classroom is the most important aspect of this course.
Students are expected to act in an appropriate manner that ensures the safety of themselves and
their fellow students and staff.
Safety lessons and tests will give students the knowledge of safe work practices in the
woodworking classroom. Students are required to achieve 100% on all safety tests in order to
gain access to the respective equipment.
Students that do not follow the classroom and tool safety requirements will be removed
from the class.

Evaluation/Assignments/Grading

The beauty of woodworking is that there is no finality to any work. Students will be
given as many opportunities as they need to create projects that meet a suitable level of quality
provided that the work is handed in by the end of the semester. However, as there are 4 major
projects, students are encouraged to follow the due dates set for each assigned project. The
minimum project quality level that will be accepted is a B (73%) grade.

The following is an overview of the course activities that will make up the students
final grade:
