Sub Day Expectations 


You can work with your group to complete today’s activities, but you need to remain at a 
voice level 1​ so that your peers can still focus on the assignments. 
 
Assignments are due by the end of the period. 
 
Use this ​Google Timer​ to time yourself for each section.​ ​Make sure to turn the sound off. 

Part 1 - Writing Practice​ ​(30 min) 


1. Go to Google Classroom. If you are not registered for my Google Classroom, go to 
my Weebly and find the “Information” page. Copy and paste the classroom code for 
your period into the appropriate box in Google Classroom to register for the class.

 
2. Complete the “Week 9 Writing Practice” by typing your responses in the boxes 
provided below each question. You can work with your group, but ​everyone must 
submit their own responses​. 
3. After you are done with the entire assignment, ​make sure you submit it​. 

Part 2 - Video​ ​(15 min) 


1. Go to Edpuzzle and find the video “What Happened Before History? Human 
Origins.” Watch the video and answer the questions that appear while you watch.  
2. If your Edpuzzle doesn’t work, watch with your partner or ask your partner for the 
questions when they appear and watch the video on YouTube by searching the 
name. Respond to the questions on a Google Doc and share the document with me 
(​bchavez@laalliance.org​).

Part 3 - Phylogenetic Tree Practice​ ​(15 min) 


1. Open your notebook to the same lesson as last class. 
2. Create a phylogenetic tree using the information in the table below.  
3. Make sure to label when each of the ​traits​ evolved, refer back to your previous 
phylogenetic tree. 

Part 4 - Finish Homework​ (​ 10 min) 


1. Make sure you are done with the homework that was due today, since I am not 
there I will be checking it next class. 

Part 5 - Article ​ ​(15 min) 


1. Go to newsela.com. 
2. Read and annotate the article “Rats learn to play hide-and-seek” or “Fires rage in 
the Amazon rainforest.” 
3. Complete the writing assignment and quiz after you are done reading.
