SERMON # 3: TEXTUAL SERMON FROM THE 90 DAYS BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

SERMON TITLE: A LIFE BLESSED BY GOD

Text: Gen. 26:12-15
Gen 26:12-15
12 When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a hundred
times more grain than he planted, for the LORD blessed him. 13 He
became a very rich man, and his wealth continued to grow. 14 He
acquired so many flocks of sheep and goats, herds of cattle, and servants
that the Philistines became jealous of him. 15 So the Philistines filled up
all of Isaac's wells with dirt. These were the wells that had been dug by
the servants of his father, Abraham.
INTRODUCTION: Have you tried to plant a tree or crops and it does
grow? There are people who are good in planting because they have a
“green thumb”. In the Bible, Isaac planted crops in Genesis 22:12. During
that time there was a famine in their place so God instructed him to
move to Gerar.
TRANSITION: now, let us take a further study about Isaac’s planting
crops during the time of famine and what happened when he planted. Let
us open our Bible please to Genesis 26:12-15.
I. WE NEED TO PLANT IN TIMES OF FAMINE
A. Isaac planted crops
Gen 26:12-15
12 When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a
hundred times more grain than he planted, for the LORD blessed
him.

Remember that Isaac is not a farmer. But God told him to move to
Gerar because of the famine in their land. Isaac did plant and
reaped a hundred folds. It says in Gen. 26:12 that he harvested a
hundredfold for the Lord blessed him.

If he did not obeyed the word of God to go to a place God had

instructed him to go, he would have no crops to harvest.

Illustration: moving to another place instructed by God is just

like going to a place using a “waze” or “GPS”. This gadgets will
lead you to a place until you reach your destination.

SERMON # 3: TEXTUAL SERMON FROM THE 90 DAYS BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

The same with obeying God’s command, he guides us to a

direction until we get into the place he planned us to be. Our
destiny, our assignments.

Application: there are times that God will speak unto us and will
tell us to go to a place, it may be a position in your office, it may
be a person God wants us to meet because he wants us to bring
his message through us, it may be a project that He wants us to
carry on. When it happens, just obey and see what God will do in
your life.

B. Isaac reaped a hundredfold of grain that he planted

Gen. 26:12 NIV When Isaac planted his crops that year, he
harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the
LORD blessed him.

Though he was not a farmer, he reaped a hundred times more

than he planted. It shows prosperity. It shows abundance. It
shows a huge amount of money. It pays back what he has
planted.

Application: when you expect someone to do good to you, you

must first plant goodness and kindness to other people. When
you need salary increase or higher income, you need to plant
extra time for your business or work.
Transition: now let us take a look again in
Genesis 26:12, what caused him to reap a hundred
times.

SERMON # 3: TEXTUAL SERMON FROM THE 90 DAYS BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

Gen. 26:12 NIV When Isaac planted his crops that year, he
harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the
LORD blessed him.
A. It is not our talent and abilities that caused us to be
blessed.

The Lord is the reason why Isaac got blessed with the crops he
planted. God who blessed Isaac is the same God who will bless
us when we plant.

Application: In your work, your skills is irrelevant because God

caused blessings upon our lives. He is the one who really gave
our talents, skills, and abilities. No matter how hard you try
working hard, it is a fail without the moving of the Lord in our
lives.

B. The blessings of planting crops

GENESIS 26:13-14 niv 13 He became a very rich man,

and his wealth continued to grow. 14 He acquired so
many flocks of sheep and goats, herds of cattle, and
servants that the Philistines became jealous of him.
1. He became very rich Genesis 26:13
2. His wealth continued to grow Genesis 26:13
3. He acquire many assets Genesis 26:14
4. He has a lot of servants Genesis 26:14

Transition: being wealthy is not

always easy, there will enemies along the way as you
get rich. Let us continue our study the challenge of a
blessed life.

III. THE CHALLENGE OF A BLESSED LIFE

GENESIS 26:13-14 niv 13 He became a very rich man,

and his wealth continued to grow. 14 He acquired so
many flocks of sheep and goats, herds of cattle, and
servants that the Philistines became jealous of him.

A. Neighbors got envied when people prospers

Illustration: It is what you call “crab mentality”.
Pulling down a person to a lower position by slandering
against a person and etc.

Application: when you are prospering a lot, people will

throw stone at you so that you will be destructed. When
it happens, just don’t fight back. As long as you know
you are not doing anything wrong against them, don’t
mind jealous people.

CONCLUSION: Sometimes we need to do other things that we don’t

used to do just to be able to see the blessings of God in our lives. We
need to do some changes in some areas of our lives so that God can
moved and bless us. There will be some challenges as we prosper but
God will be with us to protect us and help us in the assignments he
has placed us to be.
