ORAL COMMUNICATION
SPEECH CHOIR



MECHANICS:

1. The Speech Choir Presentation shall be performed by Grade 11 students of Oral Communication in the
Higher School ng UMak.
2. Participating sections shall be composed of the whole class.
3. The Speech Choir piece shall be selected and agreed upon by, if not whole, the majority of the class.
4. The use of costumes and props is encouraged and will be allowed.
5. Performance of each team shall NOT exceed 15 minutes.
6. Performance will be done on or before the Final Examination Period.
7. Performance will be video recorded for evaluation and documentation purposes.

EVALUATION:

• The performance shall be evaluated by the Oral Communication Adviser as performed live.
• Two (2) to three (3) other faculty guest judges will also be asked to evaluate their performance through
the video-recorded presentation.

CRITERIA:

Interpretation 30 %
Delivery 30 %
Stage Presence 20 %
Mastery of the Piece 10 %
Costume and Sound Effects 10 %
TOTAL: 100 %

DELIVERY (VERBAL SKILLS)
• Used vocal variety and did not sound monotonous
• Spoke loud enough and speech flowed smoothly 30
• Words were articulated, enunciated, and pronounced correctly
• Voices were blended nicely and were in harmony and sync
STAGE PRESENCE and AUDIENCE ADAPTATION (NON-VERBAL SKILLS)
• Eye contact was effectively used
• Distracting movements and mannerisms were avoided
• Facial expressions and gestures used were appropriate to the
message of the speech 20
• Speakers appeared prepared and confident
• Speakers showed oneness (unity) and created a positive image
• Able to capture the audience’s interest and keep them engaged

• Piece was recited from memory; not dependent on any form of visual
cues or aids
