Plants are an important natural resource. Men and animals depend upon them for food. Animals eat plants. Our
food comes from plants and animals that eat plants. Another reason that plants are important is that they care of the air.
They take in carbon dioxide, a harmful gas in the air, to make their own food. They give off oxygen, a clean healthy gas.
In this way, plants become natural air cleaners. Plants need water, sunlight and fertile soil to grow healthy. If they do not
get enough of these, the plants die. Acid rain also kills plants. Acid rain forms when water vapor mixes with harmful
gases in the atmosphere. When acid rain falls on plants, they die.
