The diagram illustrates the process to generate coal-fired electricity.

From an overall
perspective, there are 3 main stages including the coal supply, thermodynamic process, and
electricity generation.
The process commences with grinding coal into fine powder. After that, the pulverized coal is
moved to the boiler furnace and heated. The resulting temperature from combustion boils water
to produce steam. All the residue consisting of ash and dust will be collected, stacked, and
treated by the ash and dust collection systems. In the subsequent step, steam at high pressure is
piped to a turbine where it impinges sets of blades, hence, spins the device. The rotation of the
turbine leads to the operation of the generator, the creation of an electrical current, and the
production of electricity.
The steam is then condensed to liquid state, cooled downed, and pumped back into the boiler to
repeat the cycle. High-voltage electricity is now transmitted through the power grid. At the
substations, transformers will reduce the voltage to a lower level for distribution with industrial,
commercial, and residential purposes.
