Chup and play this weekend at The Hills

KUCHING: IKA Picture Storyhouse, Wizkids Extended Care Centre, Green
Eduland, and Little Story Club are proud to present "Chup! Jom Main 2.0" as
part of the opening weekend for What About Kuching (WAK) 2019.
The objective of this event is to have families create happy memories together,
while giving children a taste of traditional childhood fun.
This event will be held on September 28-29, from 1pm to 5pm, at Lower
Ground, The Hills, Kuching.
Chup! Jom Main 2.0 has three main activity areas.
The first section is the Kidastic Fun Fair, with games stalls designed and run by
children. The public can look forward to playing and winning attractive prizes
through various games.
The second section is the traditional childhood games section, which gives
children a taste of their parents' childhood games. Look forward to old-time
games such as ‘zero point’ and eagle vs hen.
The third section is a storytelling and craft space, where families are invited to
partake in Mandarin and English storytelling, while working on some related
craft.
Why play?
Play is important for a child's growth, and hence, even the UN has declared
that every child should have the right to play. Chup! Jom Main 2.0 aims to
provide a platform for children to play constructively, and also to remind adults
that play is crucial to a happy childhood.
Tay Yitping from Ika Picture Storyhouse saids that children these days are
mostly hidden behind four walls, and are ordered to just sit and study, with
very little opportunity for play.
“Together with the growth of technology, even if children were not studying,
they would be passively facing the screen on their games and apps.”
She added that many of us did not grow up in material comfort, but we had
freedom to play.
“It is important to maintain that human connection with each other, even if
play resulted in us being all sweaty and dirty. Children today seem to have lost
out on that beautiful time."
She believes that a happy childhood is key to a resilient adulthood. At this day
and age when everyone is always busy, it is crucial to carve out time to play.
"With our current busy lifestyles, with both parents working, it is also not easy
to find child-friendly activities during the weekend. Many parents do not know
what to do with their children over the weekends, and there are only so many
malls and movies to watch. Through this event, we hope to awaken the inner
child in these parents, and to help them recall their happy, yet tech-free
childhood that was full of play.”
The organisers would like to thank About Kuching for providing them with the
platform to bring this simple happiness to Kuching families.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to this exciting event. As there
are limited spots available for the traditional games and storytelling sections,
parents are encouraged to pre-register their children. There are also limited
promotional packages available.
