3. Instruction- learning Process:
Do First: Students will complete a pre-lesson worksheet to assess their prior knowledge on area.
Mini-lesson: Begin the lesson with a BrainPOP video. Then, move to the PowerPoint to guide notes and
the teacher explaining the notes being explained for the students who learn best auditory.
Guided Practice: Students will complete a worksheet based on the lesson on area (Worksheet included)
Independent Practice: Students will get up and move to find a partner to work with. Partners will draw
their names in block letters on graph paper. After that, students will leave their names on their desks and
pick another student’s name and work together to find the area of the block names. The movement will

a. With this lesson plan. students will learn how to find the area of a trapezoid. This is a 6th

peers, even when it comes to a subject like math where it doesn’t seem like multicultural
education is important.
c. I think there’s a lot of active learning in this lesson plan. Students have the opportunity to
talk with their peers and not be forced to sit at their desks for 90 minutes straight. I think
that students being able to move will help increase their ability to learn.
