Niche Identifier Worksheet
This worksheet will help you begin to identify potential niches to work in.
Like many aspects of your online freelancing business, choosing a niche is more art
than science! While there’s no precise formula or method for deciding on a specialty,
your answers to the following questions will give you a solid foundation for evaluating
which niches may be a good fit for you.
Remember, you’re always free to change your niche at any timeeither because your
current niche isn’t working according to plan, or to further your professional growth as a
freelancer. (There’s also no harm in applying to jobs outside your niche, especially if
they’re a close match.)

Look at all the jobs you listed above. Brainstorm several niches you could form
around one or more of them. Do any of them involve the same types of work or
industries? Have any of your clients held similar positions (e.g. startup founders),
or have they had common goals (e.g. lead generation)? Think creativelyhaving
3 options to choose from will give you a better chance of ending up with a solid
niche.

Bonus section
List any special training, experience, or skills you have. (Pro tip: Some of these
may not be obvious. Dig deep. Think about what your friends and family say
you’re good at, as well as what issues people come to you for help/advice with.
We often take our own strengths for grantedand think everyone possesses
thembut they don’t. So make sure to list everything
you’re good at. This can be
something as simple as “being organized” or speaking 2 languages.)

Which of the items you just listed can potentially be used to give you a special
advantage in any particular niche? (Remember to think creatively and go beyond
the obvious. For example, a strong interest in cooking can give you a leg up
writing for the food industry.)
