KIA 3003: TRAFFIC ENGINEERING

LABORATORY EXERCISE 1

Objective:

To conduct adequate data collection at a signalized intersection to determine the


intersection performance.

Tasks:
1. Choose an appropriate signalized intersection to work on for each group.
2. Determine the data to be collected (traffic data, signal timings, saturation headway
etc.)
3. Determine the method to be used to collect the required data.
4. Collect the equipment (if any) and return them in good working condition after the
data collection.
5. Do the data collection on site within the time allocated.
6. Do an appropriate analysis of the traffic data and present the results in your group
report.
Note:
1. The lab work is conducted as a group and the data is to be shared within the group
only, not with other groups.
2. Care must be taken to ensure safety is observed at all instances during the lab
exercise.

Lab Report
Lab report consists of two parts, which is group work and individual work. The group
work includes lab objectives, methodology, cautious steps, results & graphs plotting.
The individual part includes discussion and conclusion. All the group work and
individual work must submit together and compile as one group report. The report
submission deadline is two weeks after your lab session.
