Honors Chemistry Homework 1!

The following set of problems should help reinforce the content we had covered in
class for the first week. The large number of problems comes from the number of days
given to complete the homework and from the simplicity of most of the problems. Be
sure to ask questions when needed! Email me and/or talk to me in person. I will have
dorm duty on Monday in North Perry, and I have a lot of free time before that.
There are Books problems from the chapters that are specified. There are also
questions I wrote here. Be sure to have at least a restating of the questions you are
answering with your answer when you turn it in, and to make it easy to read! Enjoy!
Book problems (BP):
Chapter 1: 1, 4, 10; Chapter 2: 5, 7, 13, 14, 15, 18, 20, 23, 28, 31, 32

1. Give fives examples of chemical reactions that you see in everyday life, separate
from what we talked about in class. (you may include answers that you gathered
from BP#4).

2. Give the next three terms in the sequence: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, ? , ? , ?

3. You are given nine pennies. One was minted in 1980 and the other eight were
minted after 1982. The 1980 penny weighs 3.0 g; the other pennies have less
copper and weigh only 2.5 g. assuming the mint dates are illegible, devise a
method using the balance shown to determine the heavier 1980 penny in only
two trials.

Extra challenges: This is not extra credit. These are some extra sequence problems that
you can do for FUN! I am excited to see what you come up with as solutions.

B. Give the next three terms in the sequence: 0, 0, 1, 0, 2, 0, 2, 2, 1, 6, ?, ?, ?
