Definition of Secondary Education:

Secondary education is informally regarded as the education children receive during their
teenage years, although the average ages of entrance and exit vary considerably among various
nations.

An education which starts from grade nine to grade ten. Simply, in Pakistan, this is called
Secondary School Certificate (SSC). Whereas, education that is further given for two more years
after SSC is called Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC).

Aim of Secondary Education:

1. acquire necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for the development of the self and the nation
2. promote love for and loyalty to the nation
3. develop mentally, socially, morally, physically and spiritually
4. enhance understanding and respect for own and other people's cultures and their place in
contemporary society
5. enhance understanding and appreciation of interrelationships among nations
6. promote positive environmental and health practices
7. build a firm foundation for further education and training
8. develop ability for enquiry, critical thinking and rational judgment
9. develop into a responsible and socially well adjusted person
10. promote acceptance and respect for all persons
11. enhance enjoyment in learning
12. identify individual talents and develop them
13. build a foundation for technological and industrial development
14. develop into a self-disciplined individual who appreciates work and manages time properly

The adoption of the goals of democracy and socialism necessitating the development among the
people of a broad, national and Islamic idealogy.; • (2) The extreme poverty of the country and
urgency for promoting its economic growth; and • (3) The absence of educational facilities needed
for developing all aspects of the human personality and the neglect of cultural pursuits and activities.

Significant of Secondary Education:

Secondary school is important because those are the years before entering the bigger and
serious part of education that is CAREER.

It is extremely important to focus during these years. Students get into their teenage and are all
excited about so many things. Secondary school gives the student a wider scope and
perspective about the education and what career choice to make in the future.

They get a detailed knowledge about intermediate courses, college options, entrance exams, etc.
They’re basically being prepared for the longer run.
Right from counselling in school to studying from the boards and picking the right subjects for
11th and 12th. This entire process is extremely important. It leads the students towards a brighter
and successful future.

Hence, secondary school education is signifcant.
