Formulating Tips for Avalure™ Polymers

Avalure™ AC Polymers:
• Formulation pH for these polymers is typically between 6.0 - 7.5. The best clarity is obtained at
pH above 6.5.
• Use level will be dictated by application, but resistance properties can be obtained with levels of
active polymer starting at 2% weight.
• The Avalure AC polymers have balanced resistance properties with removability.
• In emulsion systems, Avalure AC polymers can be added to the water phase before emulsification
and heated up if required. If the Avalure AC polymer is added after emulsification, the
temperature should be cooled down to about 40°C and the pH should be above 6.0 before adding
the polymer to avoid shocking of the system.
• These polymers are compatible with pigments, but have limited compatibility with cationic
systems.
• These products can be used in spray formulations.
• Starting formulations can be found on the Personal Care website: www.lubrizol.com/personalcare

Avalure™ UR 450 Polymer:

• Formulation pH for Avalure UR 450 polymer is typically between 6.5 - 7.5.

• Use level will be dictated by application, but good resistance properties can be obtained with use
levels of active polymer starting at 2% by weight. The current polymer offering will yield some tack
during dry down. That may need to be considered when formulating with this polymer.
• This product can be used in sprayable formulations.
• In emulsion systems, Avalure UR 450 polymer can be added to the water phase before
emulsification and heated up if required. If Avalure UR 450 polymer is added after emulsification,
the temperature should be cooled down to about 40°C and the pH should be above 6.5 before
adding the polymer to avoid shocking of the system.
• This polymer is compatible with pigments, but have limited compatibility with cationic systems.
• Avalure UR 450 polymer has excellent water resistance properties, and in mascara applications will
typically be removable with conventional eye make-up removers.
• Starting point formulations using Avalure UR 450 polymer in mascara, foundation and sunscreen
formulations can be found on the Personal Care website: www.lubrizol.com/personalcare
