Forces in Space

1. Determine the unit vector along the line which originates at the point (2,-3,2) and passes
through the point (1,0,5).
2. A force of magnitude 400 N makes an angle of 50 0, 1350 and 750 with x, y and z axis
respectively. Express the analytical representation of the force.
3. Force F is given by F = 200 N i + 350 N j – 100 N k. Find the magnitude of the force, (ii)
angle made by the force with the X, Y and Z axis.
4. A force of magnitude 100N passes through the point A (3,-1,-5) from the origin. Express
the force in the vector form.
5. Express the force shown in Fig.1 in its vectorial representation. Also find the angles of
that force with X, Y and Z axis.
6. For the force shown in Fig.2, find the (a)components Fx, Fy and Fz, , (b) the angles θx , θy
and θz (c) also express the force in vector form.
7. A tower guy wire is anchored by means of a bolt at A as shown in Fig.6. The tension in
the wire is 3500 N. Determine (a) components of the force Fx, Fy and Fz acting on the
bolt, (b) the angles θx , θy and θz (c) also express the force in vector form.

Ans: F = 1484.6 N I + 2969.2 N j + 1113.5 N k, θx = 1150 , θy = 320 and θz = 71.50
