(1) Two forces of 800 N and 600 N act at a point as shown in Figure. The resultant of the two forces
is 1200 N. Determine θ between the forces and the direction of the resultant.
(θ = 62.72°,α = 53.66°)
(2) Determine the resultant of the system of forces acting on a body as shown in Figure . Take the co-
ordinate directions as shown in the figure.
(R=183.764N,α=8.05°)
(3) A force of 200 N is acting on a block as shown in Figure. Find the components of the force along
the horizontal and vertical axes. VTU(January 2007)
(6) Determine the resultant of the forces acting on the board as shown in Fig.
(7) Determine the resultant of the force system shown in Fig. Assume that the co-ordinates
are in metres.
(8) Find the resultant of the system of the forces shown in Fig.
(10) ABCD is a square each side being 500 mm and E is the mid-point of AP. Forces of 3.18,
3.63, 5.44, 2.27,4.10 and 2.72 N act on a body along the lines and directions of AB, EC,
BC, BD, CA and DE respectively. Find the magnitude and direction and position with
respect to ABCD of the force required to keep the body in equilibrium.
(11) A machine component of length 2.5 metres and height 1 metre is carried upstairs by
two men, who hold it by the front and back edges of its lower face.
If the machine component is inclined at 30° to the horizontal and weighs 100 N, find
how much of the weight each man supports?
(12) Fig. shows a bell crank lever. Determine the magnitude of the load lifted perpendicular
to the weight arm FB, 5 cm long when a force of 100 N is applied at A perpendicular to
power arm FA, 20 cm long.
(W=400N)
(13) Find the sum of moments of the forces shown in Fig. about point A.
