5. DEVELOPMENT
The coating supervisor receives the materials (metal structure) from the workshops prefabricated
by the format DO-FO-16 "Reception of Materials for Coatings", checks that the identification is
correct and complete, fundamental for the traceability in the process.
The assignment of material will be the responsibility of the coating supervisor, who will contractors
coating works, delivering a copy of the Materials DO-FO-16, as evidence and for the tracking of
the material in the process.
The material information received and the assignment of the same will be recorded in the
corresponding databases for the correct monitoring in the process, as well as repeated parts,
incorrect or incomplete marks will be detected.
5.4.1 The coating supervisor gives the contractor instructions for cleaning based on the
applicable standards, specifications, drawings and / or contractual considerations of the
project.
All steel materials, prior to surface preparation, can be found in any of the oxidation conditions
listed in Table 2 and described in detail for further consultation in ISO-8501-1-3 and SSPC-VIS

The sandblast operator performs the cleaning of the structure taking into account the
following points:
Remove contaminants from the substrate, such as grease, oil, dust, rust, previous
coatings and in general all those elements that avoid the perfect adhesion of the coating
to the substrate.
Ensure that the relative humidity does not exceed what is marked by the applicable
specification (Relative Humidity in the environment should not exceed 85 %.) This
measurement will be taken by the quality control inspector who must have equipment
calibrated for this measurement.
5.4.2 The construction coating supervisor and / or contractor coating supervisor performs the
verification of the anchoring profile of the substrate surfaces worked. This verification must
be carried out with the PRESS-O-FILM tape (commonly identified as tape Tex) and later
with the comparator lamp, these tapes must be delivered to quality control, who will
randomly verify the data presented in a random way with another measurement.
Acceptance for abrasive cleaning will be according to the acceptance criteria indicated by the
customer, or as indicated in the SSPC, NACE and / or ISO standards.

coatings and other strongly adhered particles.
Method of preparation which requires the use of abrasives by a pressure jet so that the surface is
free of visible oil, dust, dirt, rolling film, rust, the surface appearance will contain random spots,
light streaks or light discolorations caused by The strongly adhered rust stains
5.6 Abrasives.
The most commonly used abrasives in abrasive blasting belong to one of the following classes according to
the SSPC AB1 standard:
The abrasives most used in jet pickling belong to one of the following classes:
Garnet
Minerals, Natural
The roughness obtained by blasting depends mainly on the granulometry, shape and quality of
the abrasive of the initial conditions of the metal surface and other operational parameters, such
as angle of incidence and the velocity of the particles.
5.7.1 The mixing and application of coating shall be in accordance will contract documents
and the coating manufacturer`s recommendations. The activity shall be effective in
demonstrating that:
- Coating areas are free of air-blown dust, blast media, or other debris that can be
detrimental to quality of the coatings during application.
5.7.2 As a part of the application process for complex coating systems, the following shall be
recorded for each coat at a minimum.
5.8.1 The Inspector of Quality Control shall authorize the application of the coating, to
construction after verifying that the cleaning and anchoring of the equipment, according to
the technical and / or contractual requirements.
5.8.2 The supervisor of building and / or contractor coatings asks the warehouse for the coating
specified in the finish request, verifying that it is the correct type, RAL and expiration date.
5.8.3 The operator (applicator) will prepare the coating according to the specifications of the
data sheet according to the type of coating that corresponds, using mechanical or manual
means according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
5.8.4 Prior to coating application, dust and sand residue should be removed by brushing or blow
molding.
5.8.5 The coating is applied to the metal structure taking into consideration the following points:
5.8.6 Workers who are exposed during the application must be in a properly identified and
ventilated area in order to be able to perform their work without any toxic problem.
5.8.7 If the spray method is used, the mixtures should be kept in constant agitation, applying a
wide and uniform layer, developing alternating and parallel movements, overlapping 50%
of the first layer with the second and successively. The pressure regulation of the spray
pot will be 2.5 to 3 kg / cm² and the pressure in the gun of 2 kg / cm². In case of application,
another method will be under the established indications of the manufacturer. It checks
output pressures with a weekly frequency for each equipment with the standard
manometer in paint pots. See process annex to see verification sequence, data will be
recorded in monitoring of paint parameters DO-FO-02b. This standard pressure gauge
must be controlled as set out in the AC-IT-04 quality control instruction "Control of
Measuring and Test Equipment".
5.8.8 The mixing ratio and the thinning layer is prepared and / or made from the information
