6. FIELD REPAIR

6.1 Repairs in Field Fabrication and/or Paint Shop

6.1.1 Repair of damaged shop applied coating, and coating of uncoated girth welds and fittings, shall be in
accordance with ECS 19-1-1-3 Appendix A using a 100% solids epoxy supplied in one liter kits. The following
are some precautions for using these kits.

a. Read and make sure manufacturer’s are fully understood.

b. Store bulk materials in a cool dry shaded area.

c. Cooling materials prior to use will increase pot life. This may be accomplished by placing unopened
containers in cool water or ice water prior use.

d. Stir Part B component prior to mixing with Part A.

e. Mix Part A and B until a uniform color is achieved making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the
container.

f. Mixed coating must be used as soon as it is mixed. If not used immediately, the heat generated by the
coating will cause the coating to set-up in the pot.

g. Spread coating with 100 mm (4 inch) wide brushes or trowels.

6.2 Coating of Field Welded Girth Welds over the Ditch

Field girth welds shall be coated and wrapped per ECS 19-1-1-3 Appendix B “Cold Applied Tape Wrap System”
using Polyguards RD-6 Tape.

6.3 Coating of Damaged Epoxy Coating over the Ditch

Damaged to epoxy coated pipe shall be repaired per ECS 19-1-1-3 Appendix A using 100% solids epoxy
supplied in the Cartridge Repair Kits.
