LESSON STEP – OVERVIEW

Lesson 1 Students will research, gather and

analyse the problem honeybees are
facing. The teacher will read them
children’s literature and create a
think pair share.

Lesson 2 Plan and generate 2 possible

honeybee house designs and explain
what reusable materials you would
use to create the honeybee hotel.
Lesson 3 Express the positives and negatives of
each design and consider
alternatives? Think about the size,
shape, colour and materials you will
use.
Lesson 4 Students will go on a nature walk
around the school and collect usable
materials for their honeybee hotel.
Once back in the class they will have a
discussion about what they found.

Lesson 5 Build and construct the honeybee

hotel.

Lesson 6 Present your design to your

classmates. Discuss the original
design and the final model. Explain
why and how your honeybee hotel is
best suited and how it would work to
save the bees. Ensure to mention
how you have used reusable
materials.
