A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN

TECHNOLOGY & LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION

(HANDICRAFT PRODUCTION)

I – OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

a. identify the possible product that can be converted or recycled using the waste materials that
are commonly seen in their classroom,
b. show appreciation for the importance of recycling, and
c. produce new product from available materials.

II – SUBJECT MATTER

TITLE: RECYCLING
REFERENCE: Learner’s Module in Technology and Livelihood Education Handicraft
Production (Grade 7 & Grade 8) pp. 44-60
MATERIALS: Manila paper, Marker, Recyclable Materials

III – PROCEDURES

A. Preliminary Activities
 Opening Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Classroom Management
 Review

B. Motivation
 Saying Analysis: A saying “There is cash in trash” will be presented on the board. The
students will have to analyze the saying and share their ideas, perceptions or thoughts
about it.

C. Lesson Proper
Recycling is the process of transforming an item which has already served its original
purpose.

Common Materials Used in Recycling

The following table lists the products that may be made from these recyclable
materials.
Material Products

2. Plastic bottles planters, organizers
3. Glass bottles kerosene lamp, flower vase
4. Fabric scrap rugs, hair accessories
5. Tin cans utensil holder, lantern
Advantages of Recycling

teacher will instruct them to look around the classroom and take note of the things that
are normally thrown away or disposed of after they have been used for their original
purpose. Think of the product into which an item can be converted or recycled. Then
complete the table presented on the board. An example has been provided to guide the
students. The teacher will give a piece of manila paper and pentel pen to each group.
After 5 minutes of preparation, leader of the group will discuss the output of their
activity in front of the class.

Item Original Purpose Recycling Possibility

1. Plastic straw Slush drinks and Plastic straw flowers
milkshakes

2. Analysis
 Do old materials can also be used as raw materials for manufacturing?
 How do we collect the materials that can be recycled?

3. Abstraction
 Now class, if you really understand our lesson today, what do you mean by
recycling?
 What are the advantages of recycling?
 If you were given a chance to create something different comes from old materials,
what is it and why did you made it?

4. Application
The teacher has 3 paper bags with used or recyclable materials inside. The leader of each
group will choose their own paper bags. All they need to do is to turn the materials into
valuable resources. When all of the group have created a new product, have them share
their product with the class along with an explanation of what the product is.
