EFFECTS OF MOBILE GAMES ADDICTION ON THE SELECTED STUDENTS OF

BESTLINK COLLEGE OF THE PHILIPPINES

ABSTRACT

This paper offers a knowledge about effects of mobile game addiction and this papers also

answers the questions, what mobile games had students being addicted, If students is addicted

in a mobile games is it possible that it can affect your academic performance, what are the

possible reasons for the students to be addicted in mobile games, what are the changes that

students have noticed in their health condition while playing mobile games in a long period of

time, did you find mobile games helps you in your academic performance. Nowadays more

students have their own device and more of them also have been addicted on their mobile games

that they played, Further more students have forgotten their responsibilities in their house and in

school result by mobile game addiction. For our respondents they find that there is a good side

and negative side of playing mobile games so that playing of it is not bad but when you are getting

addicted for it is too much, time management is you need for you to be able to prevent you from

getting addicted on mobile games and for you to be able to maintain academic performance as

well as your physical and mental health. On the other side if you follow the right path from playing

mobile games, mobile games will help to socialize with other people in your area, gives you

confident to show your linguistic skills, enhanced your motor skills and hand eye coordination,

mobile games can become stress reliver, if this was happened this will help you to accomplish

your task in school. The result of our survey is revealed the positive and negative side of our

chosen topic that is help you to remove your stress and enhance your linguistic skill.

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, more and more students are starting to use their mobile

phones. At the same time, mobile games have become extremely popular among the students

in BCP. Mobile games is has become one of the most addiction of the students.

Mobile games is a game played on a featured phone smart phone/tablet, Today mobile

game are usually downloaded from an app store, Downloadable mobile games were first

commercialized in Japan circa the launch of NTT DoCoMo’s I-mode platforming 1999 and by

the early 2000’s were available through variety platform throughout Asia, Europe, North America

and ultimately most territories where modern carrier networks and handset were available by

the mid-2000’s. However mobile games distributed by mobile operators and the app stores,

significantly change the consumer behavior and quickly broadened the market for mobile games

as almost phone owner started to download mobile apps.

Mobile phone overuse is a proposed form of psychological or behavioral dependence on

cell phones, closely related to other digital dependencies such as social media addiction or

internet addiction disorder. Some mobile phone users exhibit problematic behaviors related to

substance use disorders.

These behaviors can include preoccupation with mobile communication, excessive

money of time spent on mobile phones, use of mobile phones in socially or physically of

students. Increased use can also lead to increased time on mobile games.
BODY

Students of Bestlink College of the Philippines affected their academic performances by

playing mobile games there is a positive and negative views of playing mobile games.

Our respondents mentioned different ideas that they stated the effects of mobile games

to their academic performance as well as health conditions. We also aim to know what mobile

games caused by them to be addicted. Our respondents noticed their behaviors getting worst

every time they playing mobile games on their phone, they also noticed the changes that they

experienced in their health. While on the other side we find that mobile games give also good

benefits for our respondents like it can relieve their stress and enhances their English-speaking

skill. They also stated their negative views on mobile games while being addicted of it, like it can

distract your academic performance they say It can cause lack of sleep resulting for them to get

low grades.

In addition, mobile games have also enhanced better problem-solving technique,

Sharpened hand eye coordination, enhanced critical thinking capabilities, improve motor skill,

better decision making, enrich social skills, improve goal setting abilities. Hence, playing mobile

games help your brain become good problem solver. Playing mobile games can enhance their

hand and eye coordination, mobile game can help your thinking capabilities, the constant

movement from playing mobile games of fingers and eyes on the action requires good motor

skills, mobile game players can learn from their mistake, mobile games can help into socializing

other people around you, mobile games turns the players to be skillful in goal setting abilities.

Therefore, mobile games have a negative effect on our respondents, these are the

negative effects from mobile game addiction like, being distracted by playing mobile game, getting
lack of sleep resulting to hormonal imbalance that affects their health, do cutting classes just to

play their mobile game, Spending too much time and money for the games using internet, too

much exposure from light from LCD display of phone possibly resulting to poor eye sight.
Conclusion

Playing mobile games is not bad at all, because mobile games has also a lot of positive

views to look but some cases may be different from other mobile games user spending a lot

time for playing mobile games may leads you to negative side of playing mobile games.

Therefore, our respondents find the good side and negative side of playing mobile games so

that playing of it is not bad but when you are getting addicted for it is too much, time

management is you need for you to be able to prevent you from getting addicted on mobile

games and for you to be able to maintain academic performance as well as your physical and

mental health.

On the other side if you follow the right path from playing mobile games, mobile games

will help to socialize with other people in your area, gives you confident to show your linguistic

skills, enhanced your motor skills and hand eye coordination, mobile games can become stress

reliver, if this was happened this will help you to accomplish your task in school.

The general statements of our respondents are giving negative and positive side, 2 male

respondents stated the negative effects of the mobile game while our 1 female and 2 male

respondents stated the positive side of playing mobile game.


RECOMENDATION

Before playing mobile games, students must complete first their school work before sitting in

sofa playing their phone.

The money you spend as mobile game user must be control for you to prevent shortage of

money.

Learn proper time management to avoid skipping your sleep and eating food.

Learn to talk to other people to enhanced your communication skill.

While playing mobile game reduce the brightness of your device and avoid playing in a room out

with light.

Ensure that every day you have also time for exercise and do outdoor activities to maintain your

physical health in a good condition.

Set your limit in playing mobile games to do other interesting hobbies to add to your skills.
