Chapter 1
Problem and its Background:

This chapter includes the Introduction, Objectives of the Study, Scope


and Delimitation, Conceptual Framework, Significance of the Study, and
the Definition of Terms used.

Introduction:
A popular game among the Filipinos named “Mobile Legends” in short of “ML”
has been going around for quite long now, almost most of the students in
Gabaldon essential school knows this game and plays this game. This game can
affect their studies, they may play instead of doing school activities.
That’s why this study is very important and will or may help a lot of young
youths from Gabaldon essential school to learn more about how this game or
other mobile games, online games will or can affect their school lives.
Games are originally intended to help reduce stress and anxiety; it has
caused the opposite. Work or school have instead suffered. Why is ML
addictive? It was designed to be addictive. The developers are supposed to
have done their job well if many people are addicted to their inventions.
Those games are meant to be addictive. The more people will play them, and
subsequently buy the upgrades to progress in their game level, the more money
for the developers and owners. It is plain business for them, at the expense
of public health. Mobile game addiction is indeed associated with mental
health problems, social anxiety, depression, and loneliness. This is
especially true for male adolescents who are more likely to experience a
higher level of social anxiety, depression, and loneliness after excessive
use of mobile gaming. Almost all such games that are made constantly
accessible ultimately make children addicted to the game.

Come to think of it, games are there to help reduce the stress and anxiety
of every day demands in work or in school. However, from Clash of Clans to
Mobile Legends and many other games, on mobiles and even in PC and console
formats, these game applications have turned out to cause excessive gaming
and even gaming addiction. Many people, from kids to teenagers and adults
are even willing to spend money to get access to more game features. They
may also neglect their other responsibilities as they are crouched over
their phones trying to get ahead in the game. This is when it becomes
excessive gaming, or even problematic gaming. There are those who also get
treated for a behavioral addiction called gaming addiction.
However, as MOBA gamers grew up, time also caught up, and dedicating hours
to playing (there will always be “one more game”) becomes much more difficult
— you’d have to squeeze in that precious hour in between commuting, preparing
for work the next day, or even preparing for your kids’ next day in school.
MOBA games are known for their competitiveness. Like a typical sports game,
it pits two opposing teams against each other and bases its success on who
can achieve their goal the fastest. For basketball, it’s to have the most
points at the end of the four quarters. For DOTA, the goal is to destroy the
“nexus” of the enemy team before they destroy yours. Simply put, the main
magnetic effect of the game is to see who is better than the other.
MLBB has that familiar flavor of skillful competition, packed into the
convenience of mobile play. Considering that an average game only takes 10
to 15 minutes, gamers may enjoy this pastime in between their lunch breaks,
commute hours, and any moment where they could muster a few minutes. Online
gaming does have positive impacts towards students as it can really be fun
especially when playing with friends, on the other side, there are also
negative effects of online gaming especially to students and how it affects
them in all aspects of life, in terms of growth and development of
his/herself, engagement and communication with other people, and various
detrimental health effects.
Objectives of the study:
1.2.1 GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
The general objective of this study is to help other young people like us to
be more open minded about how serious gaming addiction is and how it should
be taken care of.

1.2.2 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:

1. To determine how to stop the Mobile Legends addiction.


2. To understand more about it and learn how to take care of it.
1.1 The limitations of playing the game?
1.2 Their struggles on focusing on Academic performances.
1.3 To determine how we can help each other’s.

Statement of the problem:


The main purpose of this study is to get the students to have a better
understanding about how serious gaming addiction is, specially to the
young students in Gabaldon Essential Academy Inc.

1. What is the profile of the students in term of;

a. Age
b. Sex
c. Years started playing.
d. Average hours spent in playing Mobile legends in a day.

2. How does Mobile Legends affect the Juniors High schoolers on academic
performance in terms of;

a. Passing requirements on due.


b. Quality of outputs.
c. Time management.
d. Concentration
e. Self-discipline

3. Based on the result, what is/are the solution/s can be implemented?


a. Understand why you are addicted to this game.
b. Uninstall the game from your phone or any gadgets.
Significance of the study

To the students,
This study will help them to be open minded about their surroundings,
because playing mobile legends can cost a lot of things such as the
neglecting the school works, this study will help them to limit their gaming
time and to learn how to balance the gaming and school works, and to also
help the students from Gabaldon essential school to reduce the addiction of
mobile gaming.

To the parents,
This study will make parents realize why their child/children are not
listening to them most of the time when they told them to do something such
as chores etc. This will teach them that online games cannot be paused that’s
why the kids take long to do what they told them to do, they should know after
this study that they should also understand why their daughters/sons are
acting this way and it’s because of addiction to Mobile legends or other
mobile games. Mobile Legend is an online game favored by adolescents; they
like this game to relieve stress. If it is overplayed the players will be
addicted like they don’t care about the people around them. Parents’ role is
needed through interpersonal communication to overcome these addictive
behaviors.

To the teachers,
This study will help them to get a better understanding of their students’
perspectives, why do they struggle to keep in track of their studies in
school, and why do they fail classes and not pay attention, the game Mobile
legends are always their priority.
It will help the teachers to deal with students who’s addicted to this game.

To the society,
This study will help the society to be aware of this game and its affects
to the students in Gabaldon essential school and how it can affect the
student’s performances in academics.

To the future researchers,


The future researchers will be able to learn and gain more knowledge about
this game and how it can affect the students in this school from their
academic performances.

The diagram shows the interplay of the Dependent variables (Academic


performance) and the Dependent variables (playing mobile legends/addiction)
and it is assumed that impact of playing mobile legends bang bang can be
measured through the given Independent variables
Scope and limitations of the study:

The purpose of this research is to investigate about the how does Mobile
legends affects the junior high schoolers on Academic performance of the
selected players in Gabaldon Essential Academy Inc Thus, this research tries
to find whether playing mobile legends bang-bang impact the Academic
performance or not and in what way do this affect their life. This game
affected a lot of students from their school academics, they often forget to
do their homework because of the game called the Mobile Legends. Playing
games is indeed very fun, but instead of having a positive impact. Playing
Mobile Legends also has some negative impacts which are quite dangerous for
children.

Definition of terms:

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game
designed for mobile phones. The game is free to-play and is only monetized
through in-game purchases like characters and skins. Each player can control
a selectable character, called a Hero, with unique abilities and traits.
