i.Laboratory/TP Web Browser
A window into integrated laboratory information
The i.Laboratory/TP Web Browser works
with the i.Laboratory (formerly APEX)
and i.Laboratory TP (formerly TelePath)
information systems to enable centralised
log-on to patient information from anywhere
on the hospital intranet. Its open technology
allows easy integration into modern clinical
solutions, such as i.Clinical Manager, to form
part of an integrated Electronic Patient Record
solution.
The web browser solution provides rich
functionality and configurable access to
patient records using a range of selection
criteria including NHS number/CHI number,
name, date of birth and registration number.
Haematology and Clinical Chemistry tests
can be viewed singularly with all associated
comments or in a tabulated, cumulative or
graphical format. All results are accompanied
by age, sex and method related reference
ranges as defined in the laboratory system.
Through the use of colour coding, users
are quickly alerted to any abnormal results.
Hyperlinks and action buttons allow
effortless navigation at the click of a button.
Microbiology, Transfusion and Cellular
Pathology results are presented in a report
style format. The use of intuitive web browser
“point and click” technology with extensive
on-line help makes the application easy to use
with minimal training.
Technology for efficiency
The i.Laboratory/TP Web Browser has been
designed to support high volume concurrent
user access, and helps to maximise the use
of existing laboratory system user licences.
The web browser solution can be run on
i.Laboratory version 5.0 or i.Laboratory TP
version 1.4 and subsequent releases. Beyond
this the licensing requirement will depend on
the individual system configuration.
iSOFT customers interested in benefiting from
the Web Browser require the following:
• Web Server package capable of
supporting Intersystems WebLink
software
• Either Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.0 or
later), Netscape Navigator (3.x or later), or
Netscape communicator web browser.
Safe and sound
As i.Laboratory Web Browser has the potential
to be used over the NHSnet, security is a
major consideration. Initial security, provided
by the operating system hosting the web
server, ensures that only registered users
are granted access to the server pages.
Additional safeguards are defined within the
application where restrictions to result access
can be defined for each user to facilitate
compliance with Caldicott recommendations.
Use of ‘cookies’ and ‘timeout features’ further
protects results from being accidentally viewed
by unauthorised individuals.
