• Apply previously learned knowledge of solfege/scales to learn the notes

White/black/colored construction paper, markers, scissors, glue sticks

3 mins Do Now
• Turn and talk: what are the names of the solfege scale? What are the hand
motions that go along with it?
10 mins Launch
• Review the solfege names and hand signals
• Introduce the piano/ make connection to building the scale we’ve already
learn with the notes on the piano
• Discuss black notes vs. white notes – how can they help us identify the note
names

30 mins Guided Activity/Targeted Teaching Time (TTT)


• Scholar will get the chance to look at the keyboard to visualize it then will
create their own keyboards out of construction paper and markers
• Scholars are encouraged to make their keyboards as creative as they want
• Pianos must have correct amount of keys – white/black and must have the
names correctly written on them

8 mins Discourse
• If time allows, present some of the keyboard creations

3 mins Exit Routine/Cleanup

• Put away all supplies
