CHAPTER ONE

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter includes the rationale behind this study along with a discussion of

the specific questions, hypotheses, conceptual framework, scope and limitations, and a

list of terms with definitions.

Introduction

<Here, you will introduce the problem that you are focusing into/your thesis

topic. You also describe here the context of your research/the present conditions about

the problem/topic. This part of your thesis must, in a way, answer the question to why

you chose the topic that you are working on. Don’t forget to include citations.>

Statement of the Problem

<Write one paragraph introduction of your statement of the problem by restating

what this research is all about, especially what you want to come up with this research.

Make sure to arrange the questions in the flow of your study.>

Specifically, this research sought answers to the following questions:

1. <statement of the problem 1>;

2. <statement of the problem 2>; and

3. <statement of the problem 3, if there is any>.

Statement of the Hypothesis

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant relationship between <variable 1> and

<variable 2>.

Alternative Hypothesis: There is a significant relationship between <variable 1>

and <variable 2>.

Significance of the Study

<This section of your paper must discuss the importance of your study. This must

answer the question “How important is your study?” Also, this section must enumerate

those who will benefit from your research, such as students, parents, teachers, school

administration, future researchers, community, and probably the world. Make sure to

explain why they will benefit from your research.>

Conceptual Framework

<Step 1: Elaborate your thesis problem by relating it to a theory—in short find a

theory that is connected and may support your problem! Step 2: Summarize the major

variables, i.e., identify the dependent and independent variables in your study. Step 3:

Hypothesize relationships between and among your variables, meaning, guess and

establish relationships! Step 4: Make a diagram showing the relationships between and

among your variables. What are you going to write here? Everything from Step 1 to Step

4.>

Scope and Delimitation

<Explain here what will be the coverage of your study. In the scope, you may

determine who your respondents will be, the locale of your study, and other data that you

will include in your study. As for the limitations, you will have to identify the limits of

your study and the reason why you are limiting your research in that way. Identifying the

scope and limitation of your study needs acceptable basis so you may need to include

citations here.>

Definition of Terms
<Enumerate the terms or phrases that you will use in the entire research and

define them as they are used in your study. You may get the meaning from different

references. Citations are needed.>
