An inn is an establishment held by the proprietor as offering food, drink, and sleeping
accommodation without special contract to any traveler, able and willing to pay a
reasonable sum, who is fit to be received.

Types of facilities and services provided are the guest room, food, beverages, and
other types of other services. Classification of hotels can be differentiated based on
several approaches, namely:
► "Plan"
◊ "European Plan" Hotel (EP) is a hotel where room prices are determined is only for
room only.
◊ "Continental Plan" Hotel (CP) is a hotel where a fixed price of room rates includes
breakfast.
◊ "Modified American Plan" Hotel (MAP) is a hotel where a fixed price of the room
price includes two meals (breakfast and lunch or dinner).
◊ "Full American Plan" Hotel (FAP) is a hotel where a fixed price of the room price
includes three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

In general, hotel departments are grouped as follows:
• Front Office Department
The main function of the Front Office Hotel is selling (lease) to the guest room.
Because of its function, the Front Office Hotel should be located in a strategic
place (easily seen or known by the guests).
Hotel Front Office provides the following services:
a. Reservation service
Reservation service has the following tasks:
1. Answering the hotel room reservation requests.
2. Processing the entire booking rooms.
b. Porter or bell captain desk services
This section has the following tasks:
1. Helping the arrival and departure of the guests.
2. Set up the guests’ goods (luggage), whether arrival or departure.
3. Temporarily store the guests’ goods (luggage).
4. Welcoming the guests who come and escort the departing guests.
5. Arrange the guest transportation and parking vehicles serving.
6. Show the location of the guests’ reception.
7. Escort the guests to the rooms.
8. Explains how to use some of the facilities available in rooms.
9. Help to confirm the ticket.
10. Help provide information about the hotel or other particulars necessary
information.
c. Information service
Information services tasks are:
1. Provides information about hotel facilities and centers crowds / activities in
the city where the hotel is located.
2. Send, receive, and distribute orders letters, parcels, telegrams, and telex to
the guest rooms or the parts that receives the order or shipment.
3. Sell postage.
d. Reception or Front Desk services
The main tasks of the reception area are:
1. Selling room especially for guests who arrive without reservations (walk-in
guest).
2. Handling guest registration services.
3. Notifying arrival and departure of guests, the displacement room, and the
changing of room rates to other parts concerned.
4. Prepare statistical guest rooms and a history card.
5. Maintaining the guest rooms’ status actuality.
e. Telephone Operator
This section has the following tasks:
1. Answering questions over the phone guest.
2. Connecting a telephone request from outside the hotel to the room and / or
vice versa (in the city or long distance).
3. Taking and sending orders.
4. Counting the cost of phone used by guests.
5. Do the "morning call" when needed.
6. Help provide information about the hotel by telephone.
7. Sometimes, the phone service also acts as a telex operator, music, and / or
video program.
f. Front Office Cashier
This section has the following tasks:
1. Preparing the guest bill.
2. Processing payments.
3. Conducting foreign exchange transactions based on the latest bulletin.
g. Other Services
Other Front Office Hotel services are:
1. Handling or resolving guests complaints during their stay.
2. Providing secretarial officers when required by the guest.
