EXPONENTIAL FUNCTION

A function in which
the variables is in the
exponent. If 𝑥 and 𝑏
are real number such
that 𝑏 > 0 and 𝑏 ≠ 1,
then 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑏 is an
𝑥
exponential function
with base 𝑏.
EXAMPLE:
1. 𝑓(𝑥) = 2 𝑥
2. 𝑓(𝑥) = 8 𝑥
PROPERTIES:
1. The function is one-to-
one
2. The graph passes
through (0,1)
3. The graph is
asymptotic to the x-axis
4. The function is
increasing when 𝑏 > 1
5. The function is
decreasing when
0<𝑏<1
NATURAL EXPONENTIAL
FUNCTION
Defined as 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑒 ,
𝑥
where 𝑥 is a real no.
The number 𝑒 is
irrational & is
approximately equal
to 2.718. The function
𝑓 (𝑥 ) = 𝑒 𝑥
has the
same properties as
the function 𝑓(𝑥) =
𝑏 .
