5. Franchisor -owns the overarching company, trademarks, and
products, but gives the right to the franchisee to run the franchise
location, in return for an agreed-upon fee.

goods, especially motor vehicles

1. If given a chance to be an entrepreneur what business you want to engaged in?

Let’s PASTE IT!

Let the students grouped into 3 groups according to the color of the
wrapper of their lollipop of choice. Each group will be given same pictures that will
represents the different common small businesses in the community. Afterwards,
they will paste the pictures together with its definition in a Manila paper. The
group will only be given 10 minutes to do the activity.

Activity Rubrics
Here is a list of the common small businesses in the Philippines.

1. Sari-sari Store- Situated in almost all neighborhoods, these convenience


stores provides affordable basic retail products to nearby communities.
2. Rice Retailing – Because rice the staple food of Filipinos and other Asian
countries, rice retailing business is very common in the country.
3. Food Cart Business- They are usually located inside or outside the malls,
schools, parks, train stations, and offices.
4. Printing Business- This business is also lucrative in the Philippines because the
demand is very high. Usually situated near schools and offices, printing
businesses cater to the needs of students for their project and also to offices
for their advertising and business requirements. This business also caters to
the printing demands of different occasions.
5. Street Food Business- Literally located in streets, selling almost the same food
products being sold by the food cart business. Majority of the street food
business owners are selling grilled food items such as barbeque, isaw,
Betamax, and adidas and the famous balut.
6. Flea Market Business or Tiangge- In this type of business, entrepreneurs set
up a small space and sell any type of goods in a palengke setup that is normally
in an open space.
7. Video and Photography Business- This business requires talent in capturing
precious moments of celebrators in weddings, birthdays, anniversaries,
graduations, and other important events.
8. Car wash and Car Care Business- You often see this business in large cities
because of the proliferation of cars. In fact, the demand for car care
increases every year.
9. Website development and design/blogging- The popularity of the Internet
brought so many opportunities to Internet-savvy budding entrepreneurs. In
this business, the web site developer conceptualizes and implements a Web
site for another business whose business is to inform, persuade and remind
its customers.
10. Cellphone loading business- Wide use of mobile phones is the reason why
there are so many cellphone loading stations in the country.
11. Baking Business- A lot of bakeries are present in almost all neighborhoods in
the Philippines because bread is the second staple food of Filipinos.
12. Water station and LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas (Station)- the product they
sell are used for daily consumption, which is why a lot of these are found in
almost every corner in the Philippines, especially in the urban areas.
13. Hair Styling and makeup business- Filipinos are generally conscious about
proper grooming and hygiene, so that’s why this businesses profitable.
14. Online selling business- This business deals with adding the internet as a
marketing and transaction channel for selling.

selling of products by a sales agent.

sell business, except that the focus is on selling existing and established

evolved as well.

is composed of an expert in a particular field who transfer their
knowledge to another for a fee.

treatments that can relax the stressed areas of the body, as well as
other as other skin treatments such as facial and body scrubs.

Choose three successful entrepreneurs from different fields that you know of and are
engaged in common small and franchise businesses enumerated previously. Ask these
three chosen entrepreneurs the following questions using the interview method of
research:
1. What motivated you to become an entrepreneur?
2. What do you think are your characteristics and competencies that made you
a successful entrepreneur?
3. Aside from the business that you have, what other businesses are you
interested in?
4. What do you think of being employed? Why didn’t you choose that path?
5. Who are your top three entrepreneur role models? Why do you want to be
like them?
6. How much do you love your job?
