1. Money - is the cash component that creates the cycle of both conversion and
prosperity
Ex. Bush Salvador was broke and had PHP10 left, just enough to make then
photocopies of his business leaflet. He knew a car repair man and use the parking lot
of the mall for prospecting and left his marketing leaflets on windshields of 10 cars
with dents, which clearly needed some repair. He decided on this strategy for lack of
resources. One customer came from the 10 leaflets and the next customer saw them
repairing cars outside the car owner’s house. Fromm this car magic was born

2. Model - is the business model or the big picture plan to generate sales revenues,
profit, cash flow, growth and how to scale up
Ex. What does Philippines is the market leader in the premium water purifier
market in the Philippines. Water used to be sold in appliance retail stores in the late
1980s up to the mid-1990s. Sales and profit leapfrogged much higher than when
they were being sold in appliance retail stores and is now a sustainable business
model.

3. Mentors - are the experience advisers who can add value to the entrepreneur by
giving sound guidance to increase the competency, lessen the risk and help open
more opportunities for entrepreneurs to succeed
Ex. International furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue was encouraged by
his mother to build his own toys when he was still a child. This early experience
became part of his head start advantage

4. Mindset is about beliefs - that innovation is better than commoditization that


being an enteprenuer is better than being just an entrepreneur.
Ex. French baker wanted to distinguish itself right from its inception. They
introduced many firsts in the Philippines- a “see through” fresh baking concepts:
Quality ingredients instead of adding chemical preservatives, on the spot baking
freshness in small batches instead of delivered from Central commissary, as well as
no end-day wastage via 50% discount 30 minutes before closing time to reinforce
their freshness positioning.

5. Market - is the set of buyers that an entrepreneur Focuses attention on starting


from a beachhead market in the beginning and then adjacent markets for future
expansion.
Ex. AHEAD tutorial focused on students doing well instead of students having
low grades when they started, because of the negative perception attached to
tutorials as a last resort for students who are failing or in danger of failing in school.
By focusing on achievers they were able to change the perceptions.
6. Message - is the brand positioning that will be communicated to persuade the
target customers to buy
Ex. CDO Foodsphere launch San Marino Corned Tuna in 2009 communicating
the rich taste of corn beef with the health benefits of tuna.

7. Machinery - is about an organization structure that can deliver the value planned
Ex. Aris Alip started lending money for to the poor via his center for
Agricultural Rural Development in 1986. CARD’s organizational culture and values
are aligned with the mission of eradicating poverty hence even approval of micro
loans are decentralized and done at the branch level

8. Methods - are about system and processes that allow the entrepreneur
information and control
Ex. A look at some of the most frequently asked questions in
entrepreneurship TV shows like dragon’s den reveals the investors respect for
entrepreneurs Who have mastered basic financial information about the business.
Monitoring basic data is indispensable because it shows the business acumen as
well as the basis for the allocation decision of the entrepreneurs

9. Management skills - is about the ability to carry out the plans through people
rewards and leadership
Ex. JG Summit is the holding conglomerate of John Gokongwei’s group of
companies. They have a systematic planning process with watertight operational
procedures in a comprehensive audit system to spot exceptions

10. Moving forward - is about having the grit to continue the business despite
obstacles
Ex. Fly Ace Corporation started as jolly general merchandise in 1972. Eventually
this brand set up their own operations and they lost their distributor ship making
them lunch their own brands such as Jolley, Dona, Elena good life and jolly cow

11. Mission - is about purpose or the reason why the business exist beyond making
profit
Ex. The University of Mindanao is now the largest educational institution in
Mindanao, Read hundreds of scholarships given annually to persons with disability
while ensuring the school situation remains low in order to be the most affordable
private university in Davao City

12. Mastery - is about building capabilities knowing the nuts and bolts of the
business well and eliminating gaps in the know-how
Ex. Mansmith and Fielders Inc. is the leader in marketing and sales training in
the Philippines. It has a popular course called “Strategic marketing 24 MBA
analytical tools” to help marketers and entrepreneurs understand barstools to help
them make sense of how their industries work.
7 COMPETENCIES OF AN ENTEPRENEUR

1. Risk appetite - sees rewards for taking on opportunities that have potential
positive or negative consequences
Ex. Hustle coffee it’s a specialty coffee social enterprise where part of
proceeds goes to the training of our school used to be barista’s they have been
getting a lot of attention on social media because of their Instagrammable alfresco
area. They decided to emphasize this aspect by having large colorful murals painted
on a different wall and mix this with many kinds of plants for a garden vibe

2. Sense making - scanning the environment to the deck and eat your bread what is
happening today in order to connect in the actions and potential future outcomes
Ex. Solar Philippines president Linda vista decided to take out the
commercial projects ahead of the residential segment since commercial projects
have economies of scale, which will help lower costs for residential projects

3. Customer focus - choosing initiating and sustain relationships with customers


Ex. Mansmith and Fielders Inc. established day eight business academy for

in 2008. But he also wanted to Create something on his phone after trying unique
flavors of ice scream in Singapore he bought a small ice cream maker and recipe

4 Cs TO COMPETENCIES TO BE AN INNOVATORS

1.Creativity - forming a mental image or new idea about the future


Ex. Double dragon properties is building 100 city malls in mostly third class
cities in the provinces because they saw the upcoming chef and evolution of the
provincial traditional retail trade to modern retail.

2. Critical thinking - offering unique ways to solve define problems


Ex. Many Chinese businessmen are associated with popular saying “Sell
lower so that you could sell more” but sterling group of companies have the essence
“selling high yet selling more”

3. Collaboration - developing relationships with the right partners to attain


objectives
Ex. The Matimco wood brand was able to create a clear uniqueness when it
was launch in 1997 with matwood pretreated anti-termite wood. Matimco became
the first industrial pressurized wood treatment plant in the Philippines formed from
a tie up wirh Solignum.

4. Communication - engaging constituents to make them understand and accept

Ex. Well most furniture makers in The Philippines are plain manufacturers,

sold under his brand name it did not sit well with most foreign buyers since the
Philippines is a Third World country but he persevered and join international
