LEXUS RC F

INTRODUCTION
‘There’s a perception that many high-performance cars are hard to drive. In fact, they’re easy in the right
hands because they’ve been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It’s the same with RC F, which I
have built to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise. Electronics can be
modified instantly on board to provide levels of performance and protection appropriate to each driver’s
abilities. But even in its basic settings, it’s a blast.’

Lexus RC F Chief Engineer, Yukihiko Yaguchi

The exhilarating new Lexus RC F features a 5.0 litre engine developing 477 PS and 530 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful
V8 performance car yet developed by Lexus.

Its striking aggressive design derived from the stunning LF-LC and LF-CC concepts unveiled in 2012, the RC F follows the
acclaimed IS F as the second generation V8 F model from Lexus, evoking the best of tuning and technology from the company’s
V10 LFA supercar.

‘F’ -for ‘Fuji Speedway’, the race circuit where much of the company’s high speed development takes place- has become Lexus’
pinnacle sports brand, the intoxicating performance and pure driving pleasure it symbolises adding greater depth to the entire
model range.

One of the most powerful, versatile and responsive cars ever created by the company, the new RC F premium performance coupe
has been designed to be enjoyed by all driving enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise may be.

Everyday road driving is hallmarked by superb performance and outstanding high speed stability combined with the superior levels
of comfort, equipment and safety technology unique to the RC F. The sheer pleasure of the driving experience is further heightened
by the inimitable, high-revving soundtrack of its conventionally aspirated 5.0 litre V8.

The new Lexus coupe is also capable of delivering excellent track day performance. It is equipped with numerous sophisticated
technologies which allow the powertain, steering and chassis to be instantly modified to match each driver’s abilities, from amateur
to expert, providing appropriate degrees of protection and assistance to help them to further hone their driving skills.

The 8-Speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission features six driver-selectable modes, including a new, G-sensor AI-Shift
control which monitors G force to optimise gear ratio selection for high-performance sports driving.

A Lexus first and exclusive to F models, the RC F’s Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system now features both
SPORT and EXPERT modes, offering drivers an unprecedented breadth of non-intrusive assistance and protection.

In addition, the RC F may be optionally equipped with the world’s first front-engine/rear-drive installation of a Torque Vectoring
Differential (TVD), significantly enhancing traction and control to guarantee extraordinary levels of handling and performance.

Reinforcing the success already enjoyed by the RC F in the Pan-Asian Super GT race series in 2014, Lexus has developed a
heavily modified, 540 PS, GT3 variant of the V8 sports coupe, dedicated to track use. The RC F GT3 will be supplied to teams and
customers for entry in the global 2015 GT3 racing season.

AERODYNAMICALLY INFORMED EXTERIOR DESIGN

Representing the ultimate in functional beauty, every element of the stunning new RC F’s powerful exterior styling has been
designed to maximise either aerodynamic or cooling efficiency.

To the front, the grille and outer bumper sides are configured in a double-spindle design. The graduated mesh patterned Lexus-
signature spindle grille itself not only ventilates the RC F’s 5.0 litre V8, but also -via apertures in the bottom outer corners of the
grille- ducts cooling air to the front brakes.

The lower extremities of the outer spindle form house further grilles ducting air to the oil cooling radiators. Above, a signature three-
LED lamp headlight design is underscored by separate, L-motif LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs).

Using proven, world endurance championship racing technology, a small, thermostatically controlled cooling fan mounted behind
each lamp cluster guarantees optimum efficiency over extended timescales.

Outlets in the top of the bonnet and in the wings behind the front wheels vent air from both the engine bay and disc brakes. The
smooth flow of vented air over the top and sides of the vehicle ensures excellent high speed stability.

Front and rear bumper extremities have been shaped to optimise the flow of air along the sides of the RC F. Front and rear wheel
spats reduce airflow hitting the tyres. In addition, both front and rear wheel arches are fitted with liners, reducing air turbulence
within the vicinity of the wheels.

The front wheel arch liner has a grooved profile to smooth the forward flow of air generated by the rotation of the tyre. The beaded
profile of the rear liner directs airflow generated by tyre rotation outwards, enhancing rear aero-
dynamics to further improve vehicle stability.

Aero stabilising fins integrated within the door frame moulding adjacent to the mirror, and the rear combination lamps, further
promote straight line stability, as well as suppressing vehicle wobble whilst turning.

The rear lip of the boot incorporates a four-link, active rear wing to further optimise airflow and generate downforce for added
stability during high-speed driving.

The wing is automatically deployed at speeds over 80 km/h, and will retract at speeds below 40 km/h. With Eco mode activated
through Drive Mode Select, the wing will not deploy at speeds under 130 km/h, improving fuel efficiency. The driver may also
control wing deployment at any time from the cockpit.

Behind a full-width front splitter, the RC F underbody also features comprehensive aerodynamic measures to smooth and control
the flow of air beneath the vehicle, reducing turbulence and enhancing stability.

Underbody-flattening engine, transmission, and centre and rear floor under-covers incorporate aero stabilising fins to suppress
turbulence and help achieve a smooth flow of air. The rising rear floor undercover also features rectifying fins to ensure the smooth
flow of air away from the underside of the RC F.

These comprehensive aerodynamic measures combine to award the new Lexus RC F a notably low drag coefficient of just Cd
0.33.

In addition to a choice of eight body colours, the RC F may be equipped with a Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) package.
Developed for the LFA supercar and IS F CCS-R race car, this package replaces the bonnet, roof and active rear wing with

  2
meticulously finished CFRP panels.

DRIVER-FOCUSED INTERIOR DESIGN

The driver-focused RC F interior features numerous uniquely designed components, including the instrument meters, steering
wheel, seats, pedals and trim, engaging drivers with the high levels of comfort, support and ergonomic excellence appropriate to a
high-performance Lexus F model.

The RC F’s all-new, F-exclusive instrument meters represent a further development of the LFA’s switchable, driving mode-
dependent central dial. Fully described in Mode-Selectable Driving Dynamics chapter, the design is inspired by aircraft cockpit
instrumentation, in providing a wide range of information in clear, concise form.

This includes a large, centrally-mounted tachometer that alters according to driving mode, digital and analogue speed readouts, a
differential torque vectoring monitor, a G-Force meter, oil and water temperature gauges, mileage information and even a
stopwatch.

The RC F debuts a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section, thick grip, 370 mm three-spoke steering wheel which offers greater control
during performance driving. The placement, shape and operation of the wheel’s paddle shifters have also been optimised for fast,
accurate gear changes during all forms of performance driving.

Styled on close-fitting athletic sportswear, all-new high-back seats are comprehensively bolstered to offer optimum support for the
driver’s back, shoulders, torso and legs during high-G acceleration, braking and cornering.

The seats feature Lexus’ integrated foaming technique, which achieves a cosseting, highly supportive fit and does not suffer from
movement between the seat padding and trim.

ADVANCED ON-BOARD TECHNOLOGY

Despite its high-performance credentials, the RC F still benefits from the comprehensive array of advanced on-board technologies
expected by every Lexus customer.

A choice of two multimedia systems is available: the Lexus Premium Navigation System and the Lexus Media Display.
Comprehensive system information is displayed on both a high-resolution, 7” centre console screen and a 4.2” multi-information
screen within the driver’s instrument binnacle.

A new Remote Touch Interface (RTI) is an integral part of the cockpit ‘operation zone’ in the centre console. This fingertip touch
controller allows for fast, intuitive, smart phone-type control over audio, navigation, climate, telephone and vehicle on-screen
systems, with minimum driver distraction.

The RTI’s ergonomic structure helps the finger naturally locate the on-screen icons for press or double tap activation, vibrating the
touch pad surface when the cursor moves over an icon. The system also supports customised pinch-in and flick-out operations on
the navigation map, for added convenience.

New audio technology that restores tones usually lost through the digital compression of sound on an MP3 player is at the heart of
the RC F’s three high-fidelity in-car entertainment systems.

A 6-speaker, 160W Pioneer system is available in conjunction with the Lexus Media Display. A 10-speaker Pioneer system may be
paired with either Lexus Premium Navigation System or Lexus Media Display. And, available with the Lexus Premium Navigation
System only, a 17-speaker, 835W Mark Levinson system features new Clari-Fi technology which automatically analyses and
improves the audio quality of all compressed, digitised music sources.

Ensuring optimum cabin comfort during even high-performance track driving, the Lexus RC F climate control system combines
independent left and right temperature control with two-layer control of internal and ambient air, and upper/lower level independent
air mixing.

Advanced electrostatic control panel switches provide added convenience and fine control of the cabin climate, whilst air-
conditioned front seats feature a fast-acting carbon heater system.

POWERTRAIN
• New, higher-revving 477 PS (351 kW) 5.0 litre engine, the most powerful Lexus V8 yet
• Active Sound Control (ASC) for enhanced exhaust, intake and mechanical sounds within the cabin
• Improved 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, refined to suit higher engine speeds
• Torsen Limited Slip Differential (LSD) for enhanced traction, handling performance and driving stability

The new RC F coupe’s 5.0 litre engine is the most powerful Lexus V8 yet manufactured. It is mated to an improved version of
Lexus’ 8-Speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission. Completing the powertrain, the RC F is fitted, as standard, with a Torsen
Limited Slip Differential (LSD) which significantly enhances traction, handling performance and driving stability.

LEXUS’ MOST POWERFUL V8 ENGINE

The 4,969 cc, 32 valve V8 is 12% more powerful than the IS F unit from which it is derived, with maximum power increasing by 54
PS (40 kW) to 477 PS (351 kW) and maximum rpm rising from 6,800 to 7,300.

The new engine was also designed to provide instantaneous torque, as in the Lexus LFA. The compression ratio has been raised
to 12.3:1, boosting torque across the entire rev range, and maximum output has risen to 530 Nm at 4,800-5,600 rpm.

Mated to an 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, the new engine gives the RC F performance figures of 0-100 km/h in
4.5 seconds, 80-120 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, a 0-400m standing start in 12.5 seconds, and a governed maximum speed of 270
km/h (electronically limited).

The majority of engine parts are new, including the intake manifold and throttle body, intake and exhaust valve train, motor-driven
VVT, cylinder head and cylinder-head cover, Lexus D-4S dual injection system, spark plugs, piston and piston rings, connecting
rod, crankshaft, crank main bearing and cap, exhaust manifold and heat insulator, oil pan and baffle plate, alternator clutch system,
and engine and transmission oil coolers.

The engine design includes numerous specific measures to raise engine rpm, including titanium inlet and exhaust valves, new
high-strength forged connecting rods and new main-bearing materials. Crank pin diameter, connecting rods big-end bearing size
and crank counter-weight size have all been reduced, to lower reciprocating weight.

Uniquely for a Lexus performance engine, the new V8 adopts the fuel economy-enhancing Atkinson cycle when operating at cruising
speeds, reverting to the Otto cycle to achieve the RC F’s impressive performance levels.

Featuring a new intake camshaft profile to increase valve lift, the Lexus VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Electric motor)
technology has been redesigned to extend the range of inlet camshaft timing adjustment for the Atkinson cycle. The inlet valves are
held open longer than normal to allow a reverse flow of intake air into the intake manifold, thereby decreasing pumping loss and
increasing thermal efficiency.

The use of the Atkinson cycle is just one of a number of strategies to optimise fuel economy and achieve Euro 6/LEV3-ULEV70
emission compliance. For instance, the stoichiometric air/fuel ratio range has been expanded to 220 km/h, for a substantial
increase in practical fuel economy during performance and high speed driving.

The Lexus D-4S dual-injection system has been redesigned, with higher injection pressure of 18Mpa and improved fuel atomisation
shape, to optimise power and fuel economy while minimising emissions. In conjunction, the throttle diameter has been increased
from 76 to 83 mm.

The engine’s breathing has been improved thanks to new cylinder heads with improved porting and a high-flow/high tumble ratio. In
addition, intake surge-tank capacity has been optimised, as have the intake manifold length and diameter. New four-into-two
exhaust headers reduce interference and hence further improve engine breathing.

The exhaust system features large diameter front pipes to minimise back pressure and ensure high power output. The merged
areas of the exhaust pipes have been enlarged to achieve a clearer engine sound. Additionally the structure of the main muffler has
been optimised to achieve both quietness at low revs and dynamic volume at mid-to-high revs.

Finally, new air-to-oil coolers for both engine oil and transmission fluid increase circuit driving durability.

ACTIVE SOUND CONTROL

Creating excitement through sound is one of the three cornerstones of the Lexus F-philosophy. To that end, the RC F incorporates

  4
an Active Sound Control (ASC) system which delivers enhanced exhaust, intake and mechanical sounds within the cabin,
maximising the driver’s enjoyment of the high-revving, conventionally aspirated V8.

Activated only when Sport S+ is engaged via the Drive Mode Select system (fully described in the Driving Dynamics chapter), ASC
meticulously tunes the sound of the V8 engine.

Dividing the engine sound into eight components, the system uses an electronic control unit (ECU) to monitor engine rpm, throttle
position and vehicle speed. It calculates the optimum sound for any given set of driving conditions, and creates auxiliary sound to
match it through an actuator mounted beneath the instrument panel. The actuator is totally independent of the RC F’s audio
system.

With ASC’s contribution to cabin sound shared 50:50 with the natural input of the exhaust, intake and engine, the system designers
wished to emulate the aural experience provided by LFA, regarded as having one of the most stirring mechanical intake and
exhaust notes of any supercar.

The auxiliary sound pitch changes linearly in response to engine speed and the degree of throttle opening. A steady, deep low
sound at engine speeds of up to 3,000 rpm transforms into a higher pitched note that blends with the engine’s own sounds as
revolutions increase, culminating in a free-soaring sound beyond 6,000 rpm.

8-SPEED SPORTS DIRECT SHIFT (SPDS) TRANSMISSION

The RC F’s V8 engine is mated to an improved 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission. The transmission control
programme has been refined to suit the higher engine speeds of which the new Lexus is capable.

It now delivers a more linear response to accelerator pedal action, whilst maintaining a smooth shift feel, remarkable quietness at
all speeds and excellent fuel economy.

Fully described in the Driving Dynamics chapter, the transmission can operate in a choice of six, driver-selectable modes: ECO,
NORMAL, SPORT S, SPORT S+, SNOW and Manual.

TORSEN LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL

The RC F is fitted, as standard*, with a Torsen Limited Slip Differential (LSD). An asset to performance driving already proven in
the Lexus IS F, the Torsen LSD significantly enhances traction, handling performance and driving stability.

The LSD offers beneficial effects under a number of different driving conditions: During straight line driving it controls the left-right
speed differential to maintain directional stability. When entering corners, the coasting torque due to engine braking is distributed
more to the outside wheel to maintain stability. Mid-corner and on exiting the corner, the LSD distributes drive torque according to
the load on each wheel, maximising traction and manoeuvrability.

* Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) is offered in option, please refer to Driving Dynamics chapter for more information

  5
DRIVING DYNAMICS
• Drive Mode Select transmission control offering ECO, NORMAL, SPORT S, SPORT S+ modes
• Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system featuring Lexus first SPORT and EXPERT modes
• Optional Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) enhances traction and control for extraordinary levels of handling
and performance.
• Driving mode-dependent instrument meter dial adapts vehicle performance information display to chosen
driving mode

The new Lexus RC F has been designed to be enjoyed by all driving enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise may be.

To that end, it is equipped with numerous sophisticated, switchable technologies which allow the powertrain, steering and chassis
to be instantly modified to provide levels of performance and protection appropriate to each driver’s abilities and any driving
environment from the everyday commute to a high-performance track day.

The 8-Speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission features four, driver-selectable modes, including a new, G-sensor AI-Shift
control which monitors G force to optimise gear ratio selection for high-performance sports driving, and manual, sequential shift
operation.

A Lexus first and exclusive to F models, the RC F’s Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system now features both
SPORT and EXPERT modes, offering drivers an unprecedented breadth of non-intrusive assistance and protection.

In addition, the RC F may be optionally equipped with a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD). The world’s first installation of such a
system in a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports coupe, TVD significantly enhances traction and control to guarantee
extraordinary levels of handling and performance.

A further development of the LFA’s switchable, driving mode-dependent central dial, the RC F’s exclusive instrument meters
automatically adapt to combine Drive Mode Select, TVD and VDIM status with vehicle performance information appropriate to the
chosen driving mode.

DRIVE MODE SELECT

Accessed via a centre console-mounted Drive Mode Select control, the improved 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission
offers drivers a choice of four operational modes: ECO, NORMAL, SPORT S and SPORT S+.

The RC F’s exclusive instrument meters incorporate a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) central tachometer dial which automatically
adapts to combine Drive Mode Select, TVD and VDIM status with vehicle performance information appropriate to the chosen
driving mode.

Numerous additional display functions may be selected by the driver, including a steering wheel switch-operated lap timer, a TVD
torque distribution display and a G-force meter.

ECO mode
ECO mode promotes environmentally-friendly driving by controlling engine output, throttle opening and air-conditioning settings to minimise fuel
consumption. Engine response to excessive accelerator operation is automatically modulated, and air-conditioning compressor operation, airflow
volume and recirculation are optimised to prioritise fuel efficiency.

In ECO mode, the RPM gauge is replaced by a blue ECO driving indicator which diminishes, anticlockwise, the harder the vehicle accelerates.

NORMAL mode
NORMAL mode is the default Drive Mode Select setting, automatically engaged on vehicle start up. Engine output in relation to throttle opening is
automatically controlled to provide gentle start off, seamless acceleration and the optimum balance of power delivery under all driving conditions.

In NORMAL mode, the RPM gauge occupies 270 degrees of the dial, leaving the portion at the bottom right for the display of driving mode and
TVD status. The dial centre features a digital speed and gearshift range display.

SPORT S mode
SPORT S mode features a new, G-sensor AI-Shift control which monitors G force to optimise gear ratio selection for high-performance sports
driving. The transmission will automatically downshift during hard braking for a corner, hold a lower gear through the corner for greater control, and
then select a suitably low gear on corner exit to give the driver greater throttle response.

  6
In SPORT S mode, the RPM gauge is recalibrated to place the 7,000 rpm at the top for at-a-glance reading during sports driving. A rev indicator
light system illuminates in three stages to give the driver visual shift-timing cues, and the speed and gearshift range display are inverted to give
prominence to the latter.

SPORT S+ mode
SPORT S+ mode builds on these sports driving benefits by performing quicker downshifts than SPORT S and by consistently holding the engine at
higher speeds. In addition, SPORT S+ automatically adjusts the weighting of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) to better suit circuit driving
conditions, and activates the new SPORT mode within the RC F’s VDIM system.
SPORT S+ mode features a bar-type tachometer display to make engine speed instantly readable during performance driving. In addition to vehicle
speed and shift position, the centre meter display also shows water and oil temperatures.

SNOW MODE
Snow mode is activated via a separate switch on the Drive Model Select control panel. It offers drivers optimum accelerator
controllability and start-off stability on slippery surfaces such as snow and ice.

MANUAL SEQUENTIAL SHIFT

Moving the shift lever into M mode gives drivers manual, sequential shift control of the transmission via either the shift lever itself or
steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. M mode features full torque converter lock-up from 2nd to 8th gears for clutchless manual
shifting. Up changes are made in just 0.1 of a second, with a throttle blipping control matching engine speed to the selected gear.

VEHICLE DYNAMICS INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT (VDIM) WITH NEW SPORT AND EXPERT MODES
Lexus’ Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system integrates the RC F’s ABS, VSC and TRC functions to provide
seamless, proactive control of the vehicle’s safety and stability systems throughout the normal driving range and to the very limits
of the performance envelope.

The performance parameters of the RC F’s VDIM system have been expanded to include a Lexus-first SPORT mode.

Refined through exhaustive testing in racing cars, the system also features a new EXPERT mode which -activated by switching
OFF the VDIM system when the RC F is in SPORT S+ drive mode- only operates to prevent the vehicle going into a spin.

Controlled via the Drive Mode Select and VSC OFF switches, the RC F’s enhanced VDIM system features four operating modes:

NORMAL, for smooth performance and a high degree of active safety under normal driving conditions.

OFF, which -in ECO, NORMAL and SPORT drive modes with VSC OFF- deactivates VDIM altogether, allowing the driver free rein
to fully exercise their driving skills.

OFF with EXPERT, which -in SPORT S+ drive mode with VSC OFF- is intended to allow the driver similar control to driving in OFF
mode, whilst adding an extra layer of protection in helping to prevent a vehicle spin.

SPORT, which, -in SPORT S+ drive mode- gives priority to driver control. This new mode offers greater safety and enjoyment
under racing conditions, applying optimum VSC and TRC mapping for circuit driving.

In addition, Lexus has expanded the VDIM cooperative control function, allowing the system to delegate two brake control functions -
drive force distribution and yaw moment control- to the Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) control.

VDIM thus controls torque transfer cooperatively with the TVD for more seamless torque distribution, smoother power delivery and
greater vehicle balance at performance limits.

TORQUE VECTORING DIFFERENTIAL (TVD)

The Lexus Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) is the world’s first installation of a torque transfer-type torque-vectoring system in a
front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports coupe.

TVD is unique in using a precisely controlled multi-plate clutch and a set of speed-multiplication planetary gears on each drive shaft
to vector torque, as opposed to the vehicle’s ABS system.

Electronic control and precision electric actuator motors adjusted in increments of 1000th of a second ensure the appropriate
amount of torque is distributed to each rear wheel.

TVD has been designed to make optimal use of the RC F’s yaw moment when turning. It enables optimum torque transfer between

  7
the rear wheels regardless of the amount of engine torque being generated, creating a yaw moment around the vehicle’s centre of
gravity.

The TVD-equipped RC F has an exclusive designed Final Drive Unit (FDU) and TVD ECU which calculates the amount of torque to
be transferred, and provides cooperative control with other systems including VDIM.

More perfectly aligning the vehicle with its the direction of travel when entering, within and whilst exiting a corner, TVD significantly
enhances traction and control to guarantee extraordinary levels of handling and performance.

The TVD has three, switchable operating modes, which may be activated independently of the transmission’s Drive Mode Select
function:

STANDARD, the default setting, for an ideal balance of agility and stability

SLALOM, for an emphasis on agility, crisp turn-in and nimble steering response

TRACK, for an emphasis on stability during high speed circuit driving

TVD - HOW IT WORKS

The drive-force control mechanism in the Lexus TVD system consists of two highly responsive and compact motor control units and
two multi-plate clutches. The system also includes a set of speed-multiplication planetary gears for each drive shaft.

The brushless electric motors have a newly developed built-in high-precision resolver (rotation-angle sensor). Using technology
developed for hybrid-vehicle motor control, they allow the motor angle to be monitored and adjusted in units of 1/1,000 second, for
precise control of torque distribution during acceleration and deceleration.

Each electric motor controls the pressure on the corresponding multi-plate clutch via a ball-cam actuator.

Special features of the TVD electronic control include feed-forward and feed-back control technology. Feed-forward control is
control due to driver operations. Feed-back control aims for the ideal vehicle condition, even in situations such as counter-steer
during a drift, for more enjoyable front engine/rear drive manoeuvrability.

The feed-forward control group includes steering-angle feed-forward control, LSD (Limited Slip Differential) control during counter-
steer and LSD control during deceleration. The Feedback control suite is made up of Yaw-rate feedback control, differential-rotation
suppression control and VDIM co-operative control.

  8
PRECISION-TUNED CHASSIS
• High rigidity bodyshell with large road footprint, maximising dynamic potential
• Performance-tuned double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension systems
• Electronic Power Steering (EPS) with damper-less intermediate shaft for reduction in steering response lag
• and enhanced responsiveness
• All-new Brembo brake system with improved cooling and vertical G sensor integrated within ABS system
control

Every aspect of the Lexus RC F -from the vehicle’s road footprint and body rigidity to suspension, brakes, steering calibration and
chassis electronics- was designed for optimum grip and handling agility, taking full advantage of its front-engine rear-wheel drive
characteristics.

From platform prototype stage, the RC F was evaluated on numerous tracks including the Fuji Speedway and the Nurburgring
Nordschleife. The chassis development process included competition in Nurburgring VLN Endurance Cup events, as well as
feedback from IS F and CCS-R race car drivers in Japan.

EXCEPTIONAL BODYSHELL RIGIDITY

Despite relatively compact dimensions of 4,705 mm long, 1,845 mm wide and 1,390 mm high, the RC F’s 2,730 mm wheelbase, 1,555
mm front track and 1,560 mm rear track award it a surprisingly large road footprint for its body size, maximising the vehicle’s potential
for outstanding driving dynamics.

Based on the bodyshells of the GS and IS, the RC F is particularly strong and rigid. It has been tuned for optimum high speed
stability, and promotes ultra-precise handing and steering under all driving conditions.

Increasing cabin strength and handling stability, the rocker cross-section size is almost double that of the IS, the front apron panel
thickness has been increased and a centre floor gusset installed.

In conjunction, the vehicle is fitted with a cowl side brace, a front brace and front rocker brace featuring an increased number of
coupling points, as well as a rear brace, rear rocker brace and rear body brace. Connecting the left and right sides of the vehicle
underbody, this comprehensive bracing improves both body control and steering response.

The use of body adhesive in panel joints helps enhance body rigidity and suppress vibration. Additional spot welding points add
further rigidity, and the adoption of Laser Screw Welding at a shorter pitch than conventional welding helps suppress cross-
sectional deformation.

High-rigidity structural adhesive has been used to secure the front and rear windscreens, effectively making them part of the
torsional structure of the car.

Finally, bodyshell weight has been minimised through the use of high-tensile steel sheet and aluminium in key areas of the body.
The bonnet inner and outer skins, and the bumper reinforcement are aluminium. The adoption of the optional CFPR bonnet, roof
and rear wing package reduces overall vehicle weight by a further 10 kg.

PERFORMANCE-TUNED SUSPENSION
Honed under the demanding conditions of race circuits around the world, the RC F is equipped with double wishbone front and
multi-link rear suspension systems. Both systems include new springs, and revised damper, stabiliser bar suspension bushing and
bound stopper characteristics.

The front suspension features upper and lower arms forged in aluminium to save weight and maximise rigidity. The steering knuckle and
lower arm have been redesigned to alter the king-pin offset, whilst high camber angles and toe-angle rigidity further improve cornering
power and reduce the required steering angle.

The rear suspension geometry has been optimised exclusively for the RC F. All five suspension arms have been redesigned to
offer revised geometry, and the upper number two arm and the end section of the toe-control arm are forged in aluminium to
reduce unsprung weight.

The torsional rigidity of the upper number one arm has been optimised, whilst the bushing characteristics of the other four arms
have been revised.

  9
In combination, these measures ensure outstanding vehicle responsiveness with crisp turn-in and well controlled, progressive body
roll, whilst maintaining the smooth, pliant ride expected of even a high-performance Lexus.

ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING

The RC F’s Electronic Power Steering (EPS) has been designed to achieve excellent dynamic performance and steering feel.
Intensive testing and calibration of the power assistance curve ensures the steering feel ideally matches the dynamic
characteristics of the vehicle under even track day driving conditions.

A damper-less intermediate shaft has been added to the steering column to increase system rigidity and ensure high
responsiveness to steering input. The new shaft features and expandable/contractible stroke mechanism to absorb shaft length
changes when driving. This provides a smoother steering feel and a reduction in steering response lag for enhanced
responsiveness to inputs.

HIGH LOAD BRAKE SYSTEM

The Lexus RC F is equipped with a powerful, all-new Brembo brake system which features improved cooling, and incorporates a
vertical G sensor integrated within the ABS system control.

It features 380 mm x 34 mm discs with opposed, 6-piston aluminium callipers to the front, and 345 mm x 28 mm discs with
opposed, 4-piston aluminium callipers to the rear. The use of integrated aluminium monobloc callipers combines light weight with
high rigidity.

The ventilated front discs are slotted rather than drilled, helping to keep the brake pads clean and their effectiveness consistent
under all driving conditions. The front discs are further equipped with spiral fins which, in conjunction with improved cooling duct
efficiency, ensure excellent cooling performance.

High mu brake pad effectiveness has been improved through a revision to the pad surface to ensure uniform wear, high fade
resistance, prolonged pad life and a reduced chance of uneven wear.

A new 2-stage serve booster ensures optimal braking effectiveness and controllability. With a shorter pedal stroke and enhanced
response, braking is linear in the first stage, for optimum controllability. In the second stage, deceleration will increase relative to
pedal force, for enhanced effectiveness and maximum stopping power.

The adoption of a vertical G sensor is a direct result of extensive testing at the Nurburgring. Thus equipped, the brake system can
allow for changes in vertical loads, optimising control of braking force the instant load returns to the tyres after jumping a crest.

The brake pedal is all-new, with increased rigidity in the linkages and an optimised lever ratio. Exclusive RC F hydraulic control
circuitry optimises brake control and ABS system interaction with the vehicle’s new Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) and VDIM
Mode Select feature.

WHEELS AND TYRES

The RC F is available with a choice of four 19” wheel designs, each forged in aluminium for optimum rigidity and minimum weight.

The standard wheel is a 10-spoke design. The High grade wheel features five double pairs of thin, machine-finished spokes. The
High Plus wheel is an overlaid design with twin layers of 10 spokes, the inner layer indexed 30 degrees ahead of the outer. High
Plus wheels are hand-finished by Lexus craftsmen.

The RC F has a front-rear tyre size differential, with 255/35 R19 tyres to the front and 275/35 R19 tyres to the rear.

Every Lexus is designed to offer the very highest safety standards. The RC F is no exception, its superb performance and handling
characteristics actually enhanced, rather than compromised by its unique levels of active, passive and preventive safety.

The new RC F’s is also equipped with Lexus’ sophisticated, pre-emptive Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system and, fully described in the
Driving Dynamics chapter, an enhanced Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system featuring Lexus first SPORT
and EXPERT modes.

Additional active safety systems include a Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system, a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), a Rear Cross Traffic
Alert (RCTA) system, an Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system and an Auto Location Tyre Pressure Warning System (AL-
TPWS).

Within a highly rigid body structure of exceptional car-to-car impact compatibility, 8 airbags are fitted as standard.

PRE-CRASH SAFETY (PCS)

The RC F is equipped with a sophisticated Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS) that can help reduce collision damage and injury. The PCS
system features a millimetre-wave radar sensor scanning to detect obstacles in front of the car, even during cornering.

Via numerous sensors, a pre-collision system computer monitors vehicle speed, steering angle and yaw rate inputs to help
determine in advance whether an impending collision is unavoidable.

If there is a high possibility of a collision, PCS will alert the driver and, when he begins to brake, provide Pre-Crash Brake Assist to
supplement his own braking effort, helping to reduce vehicle speed by up to 60 km/h.

If the driver does not brake and a collision is inevitable, Pre-Crash Brake will automatically apply the brakes, helping to reduce
impact speed by up to 30km/h.

LANE DEPARTURE ALERT (LDA) SYSTEM

Monitoring road markings with a camera mounted on the rear-view mirror, a Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system helps prevent
unintended lane changes by alerting the driver when the vehicle deviates from its lane without the operation of the turn signal.

BLIND SPOT MONITOR (BSM)

Using rear-mounted radar, a new version of Lexus’ Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) has an extended detection area reaching up to 60
metres behind the vehicle. BSM assists the driver when changing lanes by providing information not only about vehicles in the blind
spot but also those approaching from behind in adjacent lanes.

It calculates the time an approaching vehicle will take to reach the back of the RC F, and alerts the driver when this time drops
below a threshold value. Hence, the timing, and distance, at which the system alerts the driver changes according to relative
vehicle speeds.

REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA) SYSTEM

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system employs the BSM radar to alert the driver to approaching vehicles when backing out of
a parking space. When approaching vehicles are detected, the system flashes the indicator lights on the corresponding door mirror
and also sounds a warning buzzer.

AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM (AHB) HEADLAMP SYSTEM

An Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system improves visibility at night by automatically switching to low beams when its
camera (shared with the LDA system) detects either the lights of another vehicle or street lamps, helping maximise the time spent
driving under high beam illumination.

AUTO LOCATION TYRE PRESSURE WARNING

  11
SYSTEM (AL-TPWS)
Based on date from a sensor integrated within the tyre air valve assembly, the AL-TPWS indicates pressure values for each of the
four tyres via a display located within the driver’s instrument binnacle. When low tyre pressure is detected, the display shows the air
pressure of the affected tyre in amber, highlighting the figure.

With a conventional system, the warning lamp will not notify the driver of the specific tyre in question, whereas AL-TPWS clearly
indicates which of the four tyres has low-pressure status.

BODY STRUCTURE
The RC F’s body structure reflects the stringent car-to-car impact compatibility standards unique to the Lexus marque.

The comprehensive use of high-tensile steel within the body structure optimally transfers and disperses impact load, minimising
cabin deformation during a collision and maintaining space for the occupants.

Fontal and side collision protection measures include the use of 980 MPa high-tensile steel for the forward-projecting rocker
structures and pillar rail outer reinforcement, and hot-stamped steel sheet of up to 1620 MPa tensile strength in key areas of the
body, such as the anti-intrusion bars in the doors.

The five-part centre pillar structure is fabricated using 980, 590 and 440 MPa high-tensile steel, and the rocker panels feature 980
MPa high-tensile steel bulkheads.

Roll-over protection measures include centre pillar reinforcement, high -tensile steel roof rails and a substantial, three-part front
header section.

AIRBAGS
The Lexus RC F is equipped with 8 SRS airbags; a dual-stage driver’s airbag, a dual-stage and dual-chamber front passenger airbag,
driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seat side airbags and full-length curtain shield airbags.

The side curtain airbag size has been enlarged for improved side-impact effectiveness.

RC F GT3
• Highly modified variant dedicated to track racing
• FIA regulations-compliant GT3 jointly developed by Lexus International and subsidiary Techno Craft
• Wider and lower than standard RC F road car, weighing just 1,250 kg
• Modified 5.0 litre v8 developing some 540 DIN hp
• Globally available to teams for entry in the 2015 GT3 race season

Complementing the RC F’s ongoing success in the Pan-Asian Super GT race series, in which Lexus teams PETRONAS TOM’S
and KeePer TOM’S currently hold first and second places in the GT500 series standings, Lexus has developed a heavily-modified
variant of the V8 sports coupe, the RC F GT3, for dedicated track racing use.

Compliant with the strict parameters of GT3 (a grand touring motorsport category governed by FIA (Federation Internationale de
l’Automobile) regulations), the RC F GT3 has been jointly developed over three years by Lexus International and its subsidiary,
Techno Craft, and will be built to order by the latter.

4,705 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, 1,270 mm high and with a wheelbase of 2,730 mm, the GT3 is wider and lower than a standard
RC F, yet, with body part changes from steel to carbon fibre and the interior stripped to racing specification, weighs just 1,250 kg.

A modified version of the RC F’s 5.0 litre V8 develops some 540 DIN hp. Purpose-built bodywork featuring Lexus’ latest carbon
fibre technology includes a large, high-mounted rear spoiler and Venturi-effect underbody treatment to both minimise drag and
maximise downforce.

Having already received some 30 approaches from racing teams in Europe, Japan, Asia and the USA, Lexus will begin supplying
cars to teams for entry in the 2015 racing season. GT3 cars are eligible for numerous races around the world, including the
Nurburgring 24-hour race in Germany and the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) in the USA.

Lexus’ support for RC F GT3 racing teams marks the next stage in the company’s ambitions to make its presence felt on the
racetrack, increasing opportunities for customers and enthusiasts to experience the excitement of motorsport throughout the world.
