Scholastic Book Order:
I will be sending the holiday flyers this
month. Should you opt to order online,
please use our class code: MJLTT.
Thank you to all who ordered last month!
By placing an order, you have helped our
class earn points that can be used toward
books and games for the classroom!
Recess:
We will be heading outside for recess as
much as possible. Please remember to send
a warm coat and hats/gloves when
necessary.
Thank You:
I wanted to thank you for meeting with me
during parent/teacher conferences. I also
wanted to thank Mrs. Aarsheim and all who
contributed supplies and volunteered their
time to help make Halloween so much fun!

Letters/Sight Words:
Below you will find the list of high-
frequency words/letters that we have
learned thus far. This month we will add
even more to the list!
I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, my, like
Mm /m/, Tt /t/, Aa /a/ (short vowel sound),
Ss /s/, Pp /p/
ELA:
This month we will be learning the following
letter/sounds:
Oct. 28th: Pp /p/
Nov. 4th: Cc /k/ (hard sound)
Nov. 12th: Ii /i/ (short vowel sound)
Nov. 18th: Nn /n/
Sight Words:
Oct. 28th/Nov. 4th: we, my, like
Nov. 12th/Nov. 18th: he, for
Guided Reading:
This month we will begin our guided reading
groups. Each week the children and I will
read together in small groups. We will make
predictions, take picture walks, sound out
words, and practice pointing to each word
as we read.
Books will be sent home in book bags each
week. Please read this book together three
times, sign the enclosed paper, and return
to school by Monday. Please encourage
children to be gentle with the books and
book bags.

Homework:
Please remind students to use pencil when
completing any written homework. They
may use crayon or marker for anything that
requires coloring. Completed homework
earns a sparkly or scented sticker. J
Math:
Our mathematicians have been doing an
incredible job. I’m very proud of them! We
have been working with the numbers 6-9
and will begin counting and comparing
numbers to 10 later this month. The poem
for each number can be viewed on our
class website.
Wish List:
Thank you so much for all of the classroom
donations! We are so lucky to have such a
generous group of families. Your donations
are GREATLY appreciated. J

the writing center
• Extra snacks (in case someone
forgets an afternoon snack)
• Soothing hand soap (Softsoap or
Dial tends to be gentler on skin than
the soap we have at school)
50’s Day:
We are thrilled to celebrate the 50th day of
school by dressing up like the fabulous
50’s! Please encourage students to dress
to impress and participate in this special
day.
Boys: white t-shirts with rolled up sleeves,
jeans, white socks, slicked back hair,
sunglasses, etc.
Girls: skirts (poodles optional), cardigans, tennis
shoes, ponytails, scarves worn around the
neck, etc.

Social Studies:
We have spent quite a bit of time building
our classroom community and talking about
some of the community helpers that we
have in town. The children had a lot of fun
visiting the fire station and seeing a police
car up close!
This month we will learn about Veterans
Day. We will also talk about Thanksgiving
and begin to think about all of the things
that we are thankful for.
Science:
October was a fun month! We learned
about pumpkins, leaves, and signs of the
changing season. Students loved our fall
scavenger hunt and taking a close look at
the veins in the leaves!
Using the five senses as our guide, we
completed a pumpkin investigation with both
a large and a small pumpkin. We were true
scientists this month when predicting
whether a pumpkin would sink or float.
This month we will continue with our
investigation of the season of fall and
closely monitor the changing temperature
and weather conditions. We will also watch
as a liquid changes to a solid when we use
heavy cream to make our own butter.
