Activity 1: What is Philosphy?


Let the students read and analyze the following conversation between a high school teacher
and her student in class:
Teacher: "John, what would you like to be when you grow up?"
John: " Ma'am, I want ro be happy!"
Teacher:" John, you did not understand my question."
John:"Ma'am, you do not understand what life is all about!"
Guide questions:
1. Do you think that John answer hos teacher's question correctly?
2. What do you think was John's interpretation of his teacher's question?
3. Based on his responses, what kind of student do you imagine John to be?
4. If you were John's teacher, how would you respond to him?
5. How Philosophy related to this situation?

Activity 2:
Based on the first activity let the students write their ideas about Philosophy.

Activity 3: Western and Eastern Philosophy


Let the students watch on youtube eastern philosophy vs western philosophy by the self made
nerd. Think: Compare and contrast aspect of Western and Eastern Philosophy using this table.

Activity 5: My Reflection
Let the students write an essay describing a situation in their life when they were able to
engage in philosophy. Describe the circumstances or dilemmas which brought about your need to
philosophoze. How did philosophy help you address your particular situation?
