An extremely large, powerful, and destructive storm.

When it occur on the Northwest Pacific ocean it is called TYPHOON
When it occur on the northeastern part of the Pacific Ocean and in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean, it is called
HURRICANE
When it occur on the South Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean it is called CYCLONE

 According to PAGASA we have 20 tropical cyclones enter in the PAR each year
Why the Philippines is prone to typhoon?
It is because the Philippines is geographically located along the Pacific region near the equator which is prone to
tropical cyclones and storms.
Coriolis Effect – is defined as how a moving object seems to veer toward the right in the Northern hemisphere and left in
Southern hemisphere.
- The apparent deflection of moving object that is result of the Coriolis force.

How typhoon formed?

In tropical ocean, the water in the oceans’ surface layer heated by direct solar radiation. As a result, the air above
the tropical ocean is characterized by high temperature and humidity, resulting in air inflation that easily leads to low
density per unit volume of air,

This is an extension of the Inter- Tropical Convergence Zone where cyclonic spin has developed. The ITCZ is a trough is a
low pressure created by the convergence of the northeast and southeast trade winds.
