FLOODING

A flood is a natural disaster. It is the partial or complete

inundation of water in places that are normally dry land areas.

Flooding occurs most commonly from heavy rainfall when

natural watercourses do not have the capacity to hold excess
water. However, floods are not always caused by heavy rainfall.
They can result from other phenomena, particularly in coastal
areas where flood inundation can be caused by a tropical
cyclone, a tsunami, or by an earthquake and can result in
flooding even in dry weather conditions.

We can not avoid this natural disaster, but we can do some

things to prepare and stay safe. Before the floods, stay informed, prepare an emergency
bag, and know how to evacuate. During the floods, disconnect electricity and gas, follow
evacuation orders, and don't walk or drive in the flood waters. After the floods, avoid
contact with flood waters, don't touch power lines, and don't go home until it is declared
safe.

Floods can have both positive and negative impacts. They can bring welcome relief for
people and ecosystems suffering from long periods of drought, but they also are estimated
to be the most costly natural disaster in different countries. It can cause inundation,
property and infrastructure damage, economic impacts, and loss of human life.
