Grievance Redressal Procedure of TATA Steel

By Aishwarya Sharma

Grievances are but natural in organisations. However, like disciplinary problems, grievances also
benefit none. Hence, there is a need for handling or redressing grievances. For this, most large
organisations in India have, therefore, evolved a formal grievance procedure which enables an
organisation to handle grievances satisfactorily. As a matter of fact, there are several substantive
reasons for having a formal grievance procedure in an organisation.

The meaning of grievance is any type of dissatisfaction or discontentment arising out of the
factors associated with an workers job that he thinks are unfair.
The grievance procedure aims at settlement of grievance of permanent workers on
probation within the shorter possible time and at the lowest possible level.

There are some differences in what procedure tata steel follows for the grievance as
compared to actual procedure of tata steel. As in an actual procedure
there are only four steps however in tata steel there are three steps that they follow for
grievance. within the actual procedure of grievance redressal in this the last step
is regarding voluntary arbitration however in tata steel this is not all used rather in its last
step is regarding going to the special central works committee for consideration. So,
these are the variations that I have seen between the actual and tata steel procedure.
