D. Discussing new concepts Discussion on the Different Types of Pronouns
and practicing new skills # 1
Demonstrative Pronouns
A demonstrative pronoun points out a noun.

Examples:
That is a good idea.
Those are crunchy apples
This is a good book.
These are colorful stickers.

A demonstrative pronoun may look like an adjective but if

functions differently, it acts as a noun in the sentence.
Demonstrative Pronoun Demonstrative adjective
Can you pass me those? He lives in that village.
That is my house over there. Can I borrow this pen?

Demonstrative pronouns can stand alone; they are not followed by a

noun or a noun phrase.

Interrogative Pronouns

An interrogative pronoun is used to ask questions. It helps to ask

about something. The interrogative pronouns are who, what,
whom, which, whose, and compound words ending in ‘ever’ such
as, whatever, whoever, whichever, and whomever.

Examples:
Who told you?
Whom did you tell?
What do you want?
We’ve found everyone’s bag, whose did you find?
Which came first?

Indefinite Pronouns
An indefinite pronoun refers to an indefinite or general person or
thing. Indefinite pronouns include all, any, both, each, everyone,
few, many, neither, none, nothing, several, some, somebody.

Examples:
Many doubt Keesh’s ability to hunt.
Somebody tries to spy on Keesh.
Both hunters were flustered on what they had witnessed.
Nothing is impossible.

Relative Pronouns
Relative pronouns are used to introduce a clause, or a part of a
sentence that describes a noun.

Examples:
You should bring the book that you love most. (That introduces
“you love most” which describes the book.)
Roger is a photographer who does great work.

E. Discussing new concepts Prosodic Features of Speech:
and practicing new skills # 2
 Prosody is concerned with those elements of speech that are
not individual phonetic segments (vowels and consonants) but
are properties of syllables and larger units of speech.
 These are linguistic functions such as intonation, tone, stress,
and rhythm.
 Prosody may reflect various features of the speaker or the
utterance: the emotional state of the speaker; the form of the
utterance (statement, question, or command); the presence of
irony or sarcasm; emphasis, contrast, and focus; or other
elements of language that may not be encoded by grammar or
by choice of vocabulary.
(5 mins) Collaborative Approach
F. Developing mastery Remember that pronouns are used as substitute for nouns,
therefore they take the function of a noun.

From the following sentence, determine which is the statement

that uses noun.
