Dear Participant,
We are delighted to bring Cool Logistics Global to Rotterdam for the second year running and to
welcome new and returning attendees on-board this fitting flagship for an event that has established
itself as the ‘voice of the international perishables sector’.
Rotterdam remains a leading international trade gateway for perishables. We are grateful for the
generous support given once again by Port of Rotterdam as our host port, and for the continued
participation of the Dutch cool logistics community. Thanks are also due to all of our other sponsors
and, of course, our expert body of speakers, without whom this event would not be possible.
Our goal in these few days is to provide a chance for all the stakeholders to come together and discuss
how to tackle rising cost, capacity, quality and regulatory pressures against the backdrop of continued
world trade growth in food, flowers, pharmaceuticals and other perishable goods.
The theme for the 2014 event is “Perishables, Protectionism and Profitability”. As illustrated by current
events in Russia, food is a powerful political tool. Understanding how a rising tide of protectionism
and ‘food politics’ may impact world perishable trade, and what this means for international shippers,
logistics and transport providers, will be one of the talking points at this year’s event.
We hope that Cool Logistics Global provides you with a great opportunity to make and renew valuable
business contacts and to compare experiences, expectations and approaches with your fellow
attendees. You are warmly encouraged to engage actively with speakers and participants both during
sessions and social networking events.
Our very best wishes for an enjoyable few days and please don’t hesitate to let us know if there is
anything we can do to help you make the most of your time here.
Kind regards
The Cool Logistics Team

Welcome to Cool Logistics Global 2014
Dear delegates,
On behalf of the Port of Rotterdam, I would like to welcome you to the 2014 Cool Logistics Global
Conference. We are proud to be host port of both last year’s and this year’s gathering of key cool
logistics professionals from all around the world. Over the next three days, you will learn about the latest
trends and be inspired by fellow professionals, and there will be plenty of opportunity to network and do
business.
In addition, you will be able to see more of our dynamic port. Some of you already had an opportunity
to be among the first visitors to the brand-new APM Terminal on Rotterdam’s new Maasvlakte 2 during
the pre-conference tour. The tour included a visit to the Dutch flower industry, where participants got to
experience the trade and logistics behind one of the Netherlands’ most famous export products.
The Netherlands continues to flourish as an importer and exporter of all perishables. The Netherlands,
with its outstanding base of trade and service companies, is a leading transit destination for every
kind of refrigerated and frozen cargo, a position supported the country’s own innovative technology,
production and packaging companies. The perishables trade is one the drivers of the Dutch economy,
and the Netherlands enjoys a solid reputation overseas. This reputation also strengthens the position of
the Port of Rotterdam, which has become an absolute hot spot for cool logistics.
As the host port of Cool Logistics 2014, the Port of Rotterdam is also hosting the official networking
reception on the first day of the conference. Don’t miss this great opportunity to connect with the
biggest names in perishables logistics while enjoying the best of local produce at the Fenix Food
Factory on Tuesday 30 September 2014 from 6 to 8 pm. I hope to see you there.
All that remains for me to say is: Have a great conference and enjoy your time in the Port of Rotterdam!

OUR HOST PORT
The port of Rotterdam leads the field in the European perishables trade. The
largest port in Europe serves as a global hub and is the gateway to Europe. The
port of Rotterdam is a complete port that offers the advantages of speed, quality
and quantity. The port of Rotterdam has state-of-the-art terminals, an unmatched
number of reefer containers plugs, outstanding cold storage facilities, a wide
variety of specialized and value-adding companies and excellent intermodal
connections to the hinterland. And, as the perishables trade is one of the
economic drivers of the Dutch economy, large volumes are shipped in and out of Rotterdam. This gives
companies in the port of Rotterdam the great advantage of being able to combine different cargo flows at
a low cost before dispatching them to the end user. All in all, the port of Rotterdam is the hot spot for
cool logistics. www.portofrotterdam.com
The Port of Antwerp: preferred gateway for African fresh produce exports to
Europe. With no less that 20 million tonnes of cargo transiting between Antwerp
and Africa annually, and the numerous regular maritime connections, Antwerp is
by far the most important European port for Africa.
It has a long tradition as a perishable port and has built up an impressive range
of facilities to handle perishable cargo such as storage, quality control, (re)
packaging, ripening, customs and transport services. As the world’s largest banana port and major fruit
port, the port has a historic reputation in handling fresh produce, both from reefer vessels (1,3 million tons
in 2012) and reefer containers (480.000 TEU in 2012).
Thanks to its central location, Antwerp is ideally positioned as a gateway towards Germany, France, the
Netherlands, Switzerland and Eastern Europe. www.portofantwerp.com/perishables

Add the fact that perishables trade is one of the economic drivers of the Dutch economy, with an excellent
base of trade and service companies for packaging, processing and distribution, and it becomes clear why
the port of Rotterdam is the import and (re)export hub for all refrigerated and frozen cargo in Europe.
We look forward to meeting you at Cool Logistics 2014 to discuss the cool opportunities the port of
Rotterdam has to offer you!
