HISTORY:
According to the legend, Cacique Hunzahúa who pretended the love of Noncetá, one of his sisters,
decided one day, in order to escape the vigilance of his mother, to take his sister to the province of the
Chipataes to buy cotton. There he seduced her and when she returned, the mother noticed that her
daughter's belly and breasts were growing, she started to anger and attacked her with the healthy one
(stick to shake the chicha), but the girl hid behind the container in which the liquor was prepared, and
this one, when struck, broke, letting the chicha contained in it spill into a well that turned into water.

Later, at the time of the conquest, Quemuenchatocha, fearing that the Spanish would seize his gold,
ordered his people to throw all their wealth into the well so that they could never recover it.

The Spanish Saturnian captain Jerónimo Donato de Rojas, tried, in the seventeenth century, to drain the
lagoon without success. Hence, it is known as Pozo de Donato
